A few of us frequent flyers have discovered how to tell when you are on a aircraft that has the Boeing Sky Interior, or has the new J/Y seats, galleys and bulkhead installed. When you checkin in online, take a look at the seat map.
UPDATE: It seems with a mix of old (PE), refitted and BSI the presence of a Left/port/ABC side bulkhead in front of row 1A/B/C indicates the new Business seating rather than PE. The BSI aircraft do not have the N/A in the B/E columns, just a 'blank' space.

You are not on a new aircraft if;
- Rows 1 & 2 (Coloured in with purple) are shown in a 3-3 configuration, with the middle seats greyed out with N/A written on them.
- The exit rows are in rows 14 & 15
- You can not see a bulkhead in the seat diagram on the front left of the aircraft. When using OLCI, your screen will look like this:
You are on a new aircraft if;
- Rows 1 & 2 (Coloured in purple) are showing as a 2-2 configuration.
- The exit rows are in 13 & 14 - There is a bulkhead at the front left of the aircraft.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This information is of course, subject to equipment changes, and other quirks of the aviation industry. When you are seated in the Premium section of an aircraft, you aren't able to see the economy section during seat selection, so you can't tell by looking at the exit rows. Online Checkin with Virgin Australia opens between 26-28hrs before departure.
Thanks also to pshepvic for his insight on the matter.
