Does anyone know how to select a seat in the new system?

If I go into Bookings, there is nothing to click, I see the booking but there are no preferences that can be changed? Not that I can see anyway?

I was wondering the same thing. Any attempts to ammend the booking comes up with a message that it can't be changed online. I guess we'll have to ring up and try to get seat allocations...

Pre 12 Jan bookings will not be able to be modified on line - this seems to include seat selection.

You will probably need to call.

Note that seat selection might not be available for a booking until 14 days beforehand - you can check by doing a dummy booking on the same flight and seeing if the option comes up.

I had the same issue with a flight that ticked over the T-14 during the weekend. I had to ring up and have row 3 manually assigned. Was told it was a bug. However with some new bookings made for next week i still cant assign a seat for one leg(let me pick a seat for 1st flight but not the return). I was also told that there will be no more T-14 and you can allocate a seat up to 364 days out.

Going by seat selection when doing dummy new bookings, it seems to be the case for 73H/E90 flights, but the 14 days still for 332 flights.

FWIW, the FAQ's indicate that any booking made before 12th January will not be able to be changed online - this seem to include seat selection. See these posts:

I recall that too. I've been looking for the document which said it, but haven't been able to.

Manage Your Booking | Virgin Australia - second paragraph in the Note: section.

But we can call up for seat selections, right?
Yes absolutely.. the seat allocations should then show up online, but won't be editable.

OK, I made the call and after a 10 minute "Gold" hold I was greeted by a very pleasant agent who happily allocated seats for myself and SWMBO across 5 separate bookings.

Seat maps and resent e-ticket receipts have confirmed the allocation.

Seems that there is no status restriction in the busines cabin, although I do note E/F telling me the first 6 rows on 332's are reserved for WP based pre-selection.

Rang to allocate seats for my parents for a flight in 9 days; as VA Gold, they could only get seats in row 15 and back...which is just b..l; she even checked with her supervisor:shock:. According to Expert Flyer, as a VA gold on a 737, seats from row 7 onwards are available on that partic. flight. Really frustrating experience....might call back on another day!

For SG: Row 15 on 332's and row 7 on 73H's - yes call back ...

I've attempted 2 platinum calls hung up on both after 10 to 15 minutes.

Same here, but hung in the second time. Wanted to add my Velocity number to my bookings from 12th Jan so I could pick seats, which also had to be done over the phone. Got 3D on both flights, 1 738 and 1 E-jet.

Have any SGs experienced row 3 upgrades yet by checkin or lounge angels?

I had to call before, short wait time on hold (platinum). CSR was very helpful and assigned the seats I wanted (row 4) but took him a while which I can understand as he was probably still learning how / what was possible.

Tried calling twice today. First attempt in the morning got through after a bit of a wait but had to be transferred to "migration" officer to change flights on a booking. Held on for almost 30 mins but eventally gave up. Called a 2nd time in the afternoon and got through almost immediately and managed to get seat allocations for 2 bookings (one in less than 2 weeks and one just after 2 weeks) and get one of my flights changed (without the need to be transferred to a "migration" officer). I was told that the T-14 rule for seat allocations was still in place for new bookings. Snagged row 10 for flights on a 332 and row 3 for flights on a 738. The poor girl (on my 2nd attempt) was absolutely lovely and said the call centre had been absolutely crazy since the weekend. She also said the new system results in more work for them.

Disappointing with the new restrictions on seat selection for Golds....

Which also has a knock on effect for Silver. I'm wondering if more Gold enhancements are coming or whether they'll actually consider some of the mentioned options to increase the platinum lustre. We know the QF definition of "enhancement" and I'm guessing we'll soon know the VA definition of "innovative".

PS - I might also add I'm not at all disappoving of the seat changes. Highest status should get best seats but the proviso being that Golds get the first option to select further forward seats at checkin over silver, bronze and Velocity non-members. We believe this is the case, but I'm not sure yet whether the remaining seats < row 7 open up to all at T-24, or just Gold.

Just had them on phone then... Didn't even have to wait, went straight through.

YMMV?

My past experience has been that taking the options to speak to velocity has got me straight through to the platinum desk, but any other option doesn't and also requires a wait.

They seem to have changed the phone menu options and I'm trying to answer those honestly, so I'd say I'm not picking the option that gets immediate service. Plus, of course, high call volumes.

I am pretty sure that Golds can get any free seats at checkin and heard rummors that they may open it up at T-24 as well.

I think this is fine as Plats get the advantage to choose seats at will and then Golds can get any unused seats reserved for Plats just before the flight.

If anyone is on the phones to the Gold/Plat desk in the next couple of days and can have these 'rumours' confirmed or denied that would be much appreciated!

I'm Plat and just booked flights OOL-SYD for 31st Jan-3rd Feb. Only able to select seats Row 13 and back!! Is it because I'm travelling with a Red companion?
