TRS priority queue for online applications

Australian Customs have introduced online application/app for priority processing of TRS claims. Once you have your Q code you can use the priority line at the airport:

That location was closed last Monday, and the website still shows it as being correct so I am not sure.

Downloaded; thanks ...the last time I used TRS in Sydney, at around 9am, the Q was an absolute shocker...took more than 30 mins, eating significantly into my lounge time

Is there any way for customs to inspect the foods prior to check-in so they don't have to be carried on board? Specifically asking about SYD departures.

I hope the SYD office has sorted out their IT issues. Admittedly, I used the online application 2 days after it went live last month - and it was a bad fail. Both mine and the fellow in front had to be manually processed the old fashioned way

Something of an epic fail in Melbourne, with only one of the four positions looking after the priority line, it would have been quicker to do it the old way. Hopefully its a teething issue.

Even more if a fail in Sydney yesterday. There regular queue was so long it weaved its way out and into the duty free shopping area. Really poor sign-posting about the priority queue. Did happen to notice there was one, however no one manning the priority queue desk. There was another person in front of me waiting and he was just being ignored while the regular queue was processed at a snails pace.



The customs staff did everything possible to avoid eye contact with the priority queue. Asking the closest customs member he just said he doesn't do it, see the next person leaving us to essentially push in the regular queue. A complete disgrace really.

The BNE effort is also a fail. No priority signs anywhere. Small queue but when it was my turn I promptly offered my printed online application with giant barcode which was pushed aside. He then processed all documentation manually, stampted everything several times and finally handed back my useless online application.

Has anyone got an update on this topic? I am hoping for confirmation that the teething problems have been fixed and doing the online application and using priority queues is easier and quicker.

Same. I stupidly didn't follow up with Customs after my last TRS failure at SYD this time last year, as I've since read that they're happy to do retrospective claims by email if you can legitimately argue that you would have been able to make your claim had there been less of a throng / more staff available for processing in the allotted time. Has anyone else been able to do this successfully?

Now that the app / online claim form is in place, I'm hoping this is no longer going to be as much as of the debacle that it once was, and that even if it is there may be some insurance with the retrospective claim process.

Is anyone able to report what they priorities queue is like if they do indeed have a priority queue.

P.S I didn't know you could make retrospective claims by email. One time I just missed the 45 minute deadline when I go to the counter and another time I gave up after a long time in queue.

I try to get to airport early now if I need to make a TRS claim.

Saturday night at Melbourne airport was an epic fail. A long line for both priority & regular claims. Jnr headed to the priority queue, where there was 1 agent processing. She moved about 3 feet in half an hour and reckons, given the number of people ahead of her, the wait would have been at least another 45 minutes. Needless to say, she gave up.

I'll get her to try a retro claim when we get back home.

I then retraced my steps and lined up with everyone else.
When I was served I asked what time the priority opened and the agent told me it is always open and just line up and they would have served me next. I asked if they could change the signage (maybe remove the closed sign?) but he just shrugged his shoulders .

Before or after passport control?

I am departing from BNE tonight and have a golf bag as part of the TRS claim. I know I can get it inspected before passport control in SYD. Is there something similar in BNE?

I suspect JohnK wants his golf bag in checked luggage which means it needs to be inspected before it's checked in.

According to Are you a traveller?

"If you want to make a TRS claim for liquids, aerosols or gels that you are not able to take on board because of these limits, take your goods to the Client Services counter before they are packed in your checked luggage and checked in with the airline.

This also applies to oversized items, like skis, snowboards and golf clubs and other goods that you will check in.

To find the location of the Client Services counter, check the website of the airport where you will depart from Australia."

I do recall reading over on Whingepool that the Brisbane counter is hard to find and not always staffed.
