Hello

This is my first post and although I am a newbie here I have been lurking for awhile and find the site and the discussion very informative and interesting.

I have been a Qantas Frequent Flyer for some 16 years now and am keen to make this scheme work for me the best way possible.

I am currently at the Silver level and think I can get very close to Gold before the end of my FF year on 31 March 2011.

I currently have 150 SC and expect to earn another 110 by the end of March based on my current paid bookings. On top of this I am travelling next month from Canberra to Hobart return on any seat award points (32,000 +$110) on Business via Melbourne. I understand that this will get me a further 160 SC.

I am also doing a Frequent Flyer RTW (on classic awards points) trip in December – January which will get me to Miami in early January 2010. I intend to utilise the return segments of this RTW ticket later in 2011.

For my return from the US, I am currently considering flying Jetstar from Hawaii to Sydney on JetFlex class which I understand will get me a further 70 SC.

I am trying to work out the best way of flying American Airlines to get 210 SC. I am thinking of flying Miami to New York 8 Jan for a few days and then across to LA and Hawaii.

Any ideas on what would be the most best and cost effective way of getting 210 SC? I expect to have a few days to travel between Miami/New York to LA and HNL.

have you looked at changing the CBR-HBA to route via SYD and also change that jetflex HNL flight to *Class?

Thanks for your reply.
Star Class on the Jetstar HNL to SYD is still an option. Have not done that booking yet.

I tried to route the CBR to Hobart flight through Sydney. Could do it on the way there only but that would have cut down my time in Hobart to one day and two nights instead of two days and two nights.

If I do star class on the Jetstar flight, I understand it will give me another 70 SC. That would mean need to get 140.

if in Miami, go to the caribbean and get an AA instant upgrade fare to Honolulu.

you will end up with loads of status credits-

Where is the best in the Caribean. I saw something about Hati but could not get it at the AA site. Bridgeport and Bermuda could.

I tried the key west one and for the first time it gave me 3 options:
economy
Business class and higher (restricted and full fare)
First/premium (restricted and full fare)

Which is the best to select?

Thanks

Welcome to AFF. :)

AA have some excellent fares to PAP (Port Au Prince, Haiti), but it's simply not safe at the moment. I'd take a look at other destinations around the Caribbean, such as the ones you've mentioned.

Whichever of the last two provides the best price.

Was a bit confused but I think I am starting to get it.

Am I correct when I do the search to put in the start airport and destination airport? I take it that I do not put in each and every city. Am I correct in saying that this is the routing the website gives one.

Also I take it that it works doing it in one trip over a day unless the airline breaks it overnight at a point. Am I correct in saying that if I end at a destination and overnight and I start again it is on a new deal or fare?

Also I got a bit confused by 'Business Standard". It gave me a fare code of IA21CNR. Is this one any good?
Thanks

Thanks. Much appreciated.

After spending some hours on the AA site, I finally started to get some fares YUPPOAH when I clicked on the fare basis link. I take it these are the ones that one goes for to maximise QF SC?

Also I tried a few of the suggestions like TPA to Victoria, Canada and although cheap at just under $400 it gave a different code of IA21CNR. I take it this code is not so good to maximise QF SC?

Just wondering if there is much of a difference between "Instant Upgrade" and "Standard Business".

Thanks

It all related to your booked cabin for each segment.

A and P are first Class, D & I are business class and earn differing SC's depending upon the distance of the segment.

That old thread I linked to (where the fare is no longer available) booked into A class on each segment - HNL-LAX-DFW-BOS would earn 150+120+120 SC's totaling 390.

A BGI routing from LAX may be LAX-DFW-MIA-BGI. The first two segments would generally be A class which earns 120 + 90 SC's and the MIA-BGI would be I class which earns 80 SC's.

Note that, in general, for AA two class flights, Domestic USA segments have "First" and "Economy" while international segments have "Business" and "Economy".
