I tried to connect on my Galaxy S2 a couple of days ago on QF94 and whilst I don't remember the exact fee when the home screen loaded up, it was an astronomically high amount.. didn't bother as I didn't *need* to use it.

Seems like they might need to rethink their approach if they're testing 35mb as a realistic level of data use on an LAX flight!

Phase two of the trial commenced a not long ago.

Here are the current charges for Wifi - First class will continue to receive complementary access.
Mobile:
15MB $25
40MB $50

Laptop:
25MB $30
80MB $60

Singapore Airlines who also uses the same system (onair) charges $30 for 26MB. Remember the internet is satellite based, not ground based hence the higher costs and slower speeds than the system used by US carriers.

There must be severe bandwidth issues to have such low data limits and I understand that it's using Satellite instead of ground based towers pointed towards the aircraft

Yup makes sense - I think I saw speed tests in that article quoting 0.11mb/s download Not gonna be streaming any content, likely just for push email...

If they price the product like the Aiphone, it will be a waste of time for all

In North America on Air Tran and Virgin America you pay about $10-15 for a 3-5 hour flight

Have used Skype Video and didnt see any issue with data limits

Hopefully competition will emerge soon to bring the price dow

I wouldn't worry too much.

80 Mbyte for $60 on last nights speeds represents about 6 hours browsing. It got there in the end,but at one stage I fell asleep while waiting for a response.

pricing sounds about what it was for the original 007 mobile numbers issued in 1987.

I suspect within 3-4 years costs will be down, usage up and even Boing getting in on the act!
