Appreciate any assistance on this.

Have a mate sitting at PER now waiting for QF71 to leave and connect in SIN onto QF9.

Now QF71 is running 4+ hrs late meaning he'll miss his connection in SIN.

Best case is they delay QF31 a couple of hours and move him to that plane. Expert Flyer is showing it has some availability in Y, but none in PE or J... so it's pretty iffy.

My mate does have some status (SG) and is booked into PE but he really needs to be in London tomorrow.

Just wondering if QF swap people onto other airlines (eg SQ) these days or are they more likely to make em all wait in SIN overnight and stuff all the connectors on the QF & BA flights tomorrow?

Any thoughts appreciated

Paddy

Depends on a number of factors. But basically boils down to law of numbers .. If there are a number of people connecting onto LHR they may (stress may) hold the flight, but would have to be a large number to delay 400 other people. So if just your friend tell him to enjoy SIN overnite. Generally they dont move to other carriers, most airlines want to keep the revenue on themselve first. You never know the flights from SYD/MEL could also be delayed and then he will make them, but again this decision wont be made until the flights are airbourne and they have some idea of when they are landing to know if holding is an option

At this stage QF71 is scheduled to arrive into SIN ~1:30am.

QF009 is scheduled to depart at 11:20pm and QF031 is scheduled to depart at 11:59pm.

If QF31 is as full as you say then they are not likely to hold departure for a few passengers. Perhaps they can hold QF009 if there are enough passengers connecting.

Not looking good at this stage but if QF071 departs on time they may be able to make up some time en route.

How are loadings looking for tomorrow's QF009 and QF031?

QF9 and QF31 tomorrow are close to full so accommodating connecting passengers tomorrow night doesn't look very promising either.

My mates on the phone to QF now so thanks for the (always) quick responses and advice

Much appreciated

Paddy

Turns out they are going to hold QF31 in SIN for several hours!

Sounds like QF were facing difficulties loading connecting passengers tomorrow night in SIN so delaying QF31 tonight might have been the lesser of 2 evils.

Hopefully all good in the end.

QF31 due for liftoff SIN now at 3am....so all good.

Might even snare an ug!!

Some people, especially ones without lounge access, on QF031 are not going to be happy. I guess they will be given meal vouchers or a choice of 3-4 fast food outlets where they can have a meal/drink.

A further delay of 25 minutes on QF071 bringing the total delay to 305 minutes.

Interesting that this flight is only given 1 star on Flightstats.

I wouldn't underestimate the number of PER pax that are connecting. They have in the past held the PER flight when the incoming flight from LHR is delayed.

QF31 has a revised departure time of 3 am.

In SIN it is normally a voucher.

Had a ~300 minute (6 hour) delay on QF5 a few years ago and they let the masses into the lounge after midnight sometime. I assume it was the masses as there was just an influx of people at some stage.

What is going on in PER? Or more importantly QF A330's? It appears that QF067 PER-HKG has been cancelled as well!

Back in November when QF010 was delayed ~180 minutes they let us loose back in the terminal and told we could go to 3-4 fast food stores and simply show boarding pass. I forget the amount. Was it SGD15 or SGD20?

Don't ask me why I stuffed myself at MacDonalds after having a snack in the lounge and then due to get a meal on board as well.

Apparently they turned QF67 into the 'earlier' flight to SIN instead!

So just one upset A330 not 2.

Bet that impressed the HKG bound passengers!:shock:

SIN is no doubt one of the better places to be delayed a few hours in the middle of the morning.

From those with experiences, would a WP be treated much different regarding such delays? Should we more or at least be given a more caring, personal response with updates etc. ??

(and no, I'm not shouting COMPENSATION! dread the thought we become so self-entitled - but one can't help feel a few thousand points would be nice ala AA)

Really?

I am starting to wonder about my transit through PER next month. Supposed to get into SIN ~5:30pm and I have a ~9:00pm flight on TG on a separate ticket. I thought ~3:30 hours was more than enough to connect in SIN.

And QF071 has finally taken off at ~9:00pm (quality time in the PER QF Lounge? ;)) and ~325 minutes late and is due to arrive in SIN at ~2:15am. QF031 is still scheduled to depart SIN at ~3:00am but may well be delayed further.

Luggage may also be a worry.

If the WPs are in the appropriate lounge, there would be updates given there. I've had experiences (admittedly, they were rare) where the Captain and/or CSM came to the lounge to tell us what was happening, and moved from group to group to do so, rather than use the PA system - a nice, personal touch, but I wouldn't expect it to be standard procedure.

Good news to finish the thread off.

Mate made it SIN from Perth... QF31 was held and he and others made the connection.

Mate was upped from PE to J. V Happy. :D

Thanks to all for advice.

I had a delayed CX HKG/SIN flight with a connector QF to PER. Prior to landing the CSM came up to me (I was quite forward) and said to meet him at the gate on alighting the AC, he then went further back, a few minutes later, another man was seated near the front as well. Once off the AC, both of us were driven on one of them electric buggies at high speed through Changi (woo hoo!!!) and delivered to the gate where we were the last PAX to board the QF flight. No sooner than we were on-board than the doors closed and it seemed we were pushed off.

So much for my luggage... :(

I got to Perth, so did my luggage...! :)

Changi is awesome!
