Hi all, had a search and remember it being somewhere but couldn't find it....

Mrs df and I have a bunch of trans-pacific QF flights coming up and just realized that i've been lucky enough to be at the front of the bus on all my trans-pacific flights for the last number of years.

So first time back in whY as a WP.

I remember reading that you quite often receive J amenity kits when in whY. Are these common, or just lucky occasional unpublished benefits?

I don't know about quite often, but I'd say they are just occasional things. Very occasional.

The main benefits in Y as a WP are good seats (sans the exit rows, which are paid for), possible op-ups, possible greeting from FA/CSM, priority boarding etc. all the rest of the perks.

It's been reported also that often the CSM will come and welcome WP members and ask them if there is anything they would like upon at which stage you could request a J amenity kit, not that they're really worth getting anymore.

Never received a J amenity kit, but would imagine you already have a few ;)

Apart from the personal greeting, you will often get a newspaper, and the main thing for your upcoming flights is the ability to select row 40/53 depending on the type of aircraft (AKA the first row of whY, which you don't have to pay for).

Any status PAX can select the first row of whY, I've had it numerous times as a QP PS. It's only exit rows you need to pay extra for.

Yep, the CSM/CSS welcome is very hit'n'miss. But when it happens, and they have the right personality, you can get some interesting things (newspapers, champagne from First/Business, a spirit which is only in Business or First, Amenity pack etc etc). But remember that they try and keep this type of activity discrete, and can't offer things that will affect the experience in those classes!

The other thing not mentioned is "express immigration" cards. These should be handed out by the CSS/CSM to all WPs (and SGs) regardless of class on flights arriving into Australia. If you don't get one and the flight is about to go into preperation for landing, ask for one.

Good point, but I now have about 8 of them as you often get handed a departure and arrival at the F counter in Sydney, plus on the flight:shock:

Ditto here...I have a few stored up for a rainy, make that, busy day. If the departure Qs are not busy, or I have plenty of time, I just use the normal Q; sometimes my arrival express card is not asked for, or I can't use it, as I have something to declare so I now have a small stockpile of these as well.

Not much use when arriving in Perth unfortunately:(

Ha yeah, have a few. Last time I flew Y over the pacific was 2003, so have been very lucky with upgrades even as a NB/PS.

Amenity kit more important for SWMBO ;).

Express cards are nice, but last cpl of trips from AKL, just used smartgate and SYD quarantine express lane wasn't being policed.

Yeah, being able to use Smartgate at both ends (now that NZ allows Aussie Passport holders to use their Smartgate system) means a very quick process at both ends. And of course in Australia "loitering" around the baggage belt while looking like a respectable citizen, will normally elicit someone visiting and saying hello, asking a few questions, and if all adds up you are rewarded with a "green stamp" and pushed to the express exit anyway!

Last year when I flew Y to the UK with the family, and I had the greet at the seat from the CSM, I asked and recieved noise cancelling head sets for all three of us. :)

With them snatching the express card if visible, so hide it if you want to save it (I keep a small collection just in case) :)

But yes, it's great. My record is waiting for the transfer bus ~10 mins after stepping off the A380 that's just flown LAX-SYD with me in PE with checked bags :)

Of course the main WP perk when flying whY is the FLounge access :).
