Revenue Fare on Qatar - Credit to QFF and/or QR Q Miles?

She has a PC account. VA is not a Oneworld member hence I was referring to this which probably won't be in place in a months time.

Sorry, I missed that - but thanks for reminding me of the QR/VA tie-up. Earing Avios on VA will be awesome, if it comes to pass. And if so, then what will be really interesting is how many Avios you will earn per dollar spent on flying a route VA Vs QF, in the same class.

I meant family sweep, ie, once she has enough QFF points, (not sure how much the minimum is), is to sweep the points to you, not between FF programs.
But seeing she has other options, and no reason to start with QFF, forget about that one.
Re: about putting her QR FF # onto VAd, not sure as yet of the details on that one.
Probably can be done, and her Avios points will go up, due to flying VA once the partnership is up and running.
But if she does want to fly PER - SYD, for now, I think best to fly QFF and put into her Qpoints account.
The QR and VFF program might not be fully running once she gets back, tell her to fly the red roo for this (current) sojourn.
This agreement that QR has with QFF and VA "really does put a spanner in the works" so to speak.
Edit: newsy saw the QR and VFF agreement starts "mid 2022" but no firm date.
Heh, wonder what AJ really feels about this new tie up, is he going to make QR "pay" dearly for this.

Chatting on Whatsapp now. The VA flights do not earn any Velocity points but are very cheap.

@Mattg - do you know of the comparative unsefulness of QR Vs BA avios for redeeming on partner OW airlines?

I haven't looked closely, but suspect BA might be cheaper on the majority of routes. Worth checking for each route though as there may be anomalies.

I was going to suggest plugging the origin and destination into Award Hacker, but it looks like QR isn't on there yet. :(

As others have said though, you can just transfer Avios between accounts. So the question of whether to credit to BA or QR really comes down to status (Tier Points vs Qpoints earn).

Given that you earn Avios on both BA and QR, I had a bit of a stab at the relative earn rates. This could be full of fleas (AKA simply wrong) - Outright errors and of course the fare levels, tiers and earn/tiers aren't the same etc etc. Pointing out errors welcome :)

I'm a bit confused about BA earns in various J fares - their calculator gives the same Tier Point earn for different J fares but their booking engine says:

Maybe I should leave this sort of analysis to the experts! (Or at least someone who understands the BA system :) )

Anyway ...

BA departs from LGW. QR business fares are Comfort and Elite; BA fares are "Highest" and "Lowest"

Not dissimilar. QR has Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers. BA has Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
  • It takes 150 points on QR to attain Silver (equivalent Oneworld Ruby) and 135Qpoints to renew. On BA you need 300 Tier points each year to attain and maintain Bronze tier.
  • It takes 300 Qpoints to attain Gold (oneworld Saphire) and 270 to renew. On BA 600 points are needed to attain Silver, equivalent to QR Gold.
  • 600 Qpoints are required to attain QR Platinum (oneworld Emerald). BA requires 1500 Tier points.
EDIT: On QR the 2nd tier, Silver, gains you lounge access albeit only at Doha Hamad airport. On BA it is only the top 2 tiers that grant lounge access.

With the added caveat that you must fly a certain amount of sectors with BA/IB to earn/retain status with them

300 Qpoints for Qatar gold.
Qatar gold is the 2nd highest elite, and convenience earns 71 Qpoints x 2 is 142 Qpoints, and if she flies a lot with QR elsewhere, ie, if she wants to fly ADL - AKL for a visit to NZ, she would earn some Qpoints on that sector.
142 is nearly halfway towards Qatar gold.
QFF needs 600 SC or so for the SG.
Next tier up from Burgundy is Silver and requires 150 QPoints. Do you mean 300 Qpoints are required from the baseline of Burgundy to Gold tier, or is this in addition to having Silver tier status first?
At your suggestion of visiting NZ I searched SYD-AKL. Is this a sweet spot in the system, what am I missing?

It seems Silver can be achieved, 160 Qpoints in KLMSV, in just a weekend jaunt across the dutch.

EDIT: Seems I did miss it. This is via DOH. Yeah doh, get it. ;)

Qatar Airways doesn't fly SYD-AKL, except via DOH & ADL.

Change the airline to "Qantas" and check again...
