I got an email from Lifemiles today (in Spanish so wont post it) but it basically says that from mid October they are going to reassess redemptions to ¨maintain a logical relationship between the points they charge for redemptions and the comercial fares available in the market place¨!!!!!!!!!!

The link I placed above is where you are led from the email. (Hope the link works?)

It almost sounds like Qantas where they claim ¨some will go up, and some will go down¨.

Have just hesitated to buy a swag more points in the latest transfer 2x1 offer.

Anyone know better what they are planning??

Haven't received the email yet but doesn't sound too good. Anyone with large balances should book travel before October and NOT buy speculatively!

TK "enhanced" their award table last month. So I guess this is a case of other *A carriers catching up.

*sad face*

Thanks for the heads up. Haven't received that email from LM yet.
This is bad news, I still have over 250k points in my account. I guess it's time to book some *A flights for next year.

I was hoping to book an SQ J flight to AU mid Nov. I might need a few more points by the time there is availability.

As far as I can tell, this is only affecting flights from Columbia and other Sth American cities. There doesn't seem to be any reference to other international destinations. The table on the site refers to flights redeemed on Avianca and only on flights originating in Sth America.

Hopefully this increase won't affect Australia.

How does Avianca affect Australian flyers? How do people in AU collect miles in Avianca's ff program? What's the attraction !

I suggest you head over to the knowledge centre, or look at signing up for the webinar this week.

That is hopefully the case. I manage a couple of Lifemiles accounts (family members) and only got the email for my personal account which is based in Colombia. Kids accounts with overseas base did not yet get the email. But clearly they are thinking.....

Probably should wait until someone from other parts of the world get a similar email.

Vale Avianca Lifemiles...

I had a look ... There's about a half dozen airlines described in detail. Is the consensus that Avianca is the best out of them? Mostly interested at flights from SYD to EU and specifically WAW. Is the article on US Airways still valid? There's also an article/book that is around $20 from memory. Is it worth it?

Not quite that simple, each program has its advantages and disadvantages. Lifemiles is (currently) on of the cheapest, offers one ways & online booking, but is not very flexible on flights and does not offer stopovers, also contact can be difficult. US good value (with the promos, in particular the share promo cannot easily be beaten) but only offers returns, does offer stopovers, you need to phone to get flights (which can be painful). I would second makis10's advice.

I'm sure Lifemiles wills till be a half decent program even if they do make some changes, and hopefully they are only minor..

There will also hopefully still be some tricks to the program that make it even better value...
