Avianca Lifemiles will ¨commence reassesment of redemptions¨. Am feeling alarmed.

There is also an English version. Looks like changes in LM redemptions only applies for flights from Europe to the Americas.

Note so sure, this chart is not for *A redemptions
As for changes in air ticket redemption with Star Alliance member airlines, these include reductions up to 15.000 miles and increases up to 11.000 miles in Economy Class; also reductions up to 25.000 miles and increases up to 50.000 miles in Business Class. Both cases apply for roundtrip flights from Europe.

(Presumably also apply on roundtrips TO Europe).

Yes, but only for flights that originate in or have Sth America as their final destination.

It would be rather funny if it were to touch on the North Americans. Coincidentally would be a bit of a stab at one of the bigger FF redemption markets.... and homeland to majority of FF gurus and bloggers.
Well that may be why they are doing it! I have heard elsewhere that the mail you receive differ by where you live, i.e. if you live in US you may have got a mail spelling out impacts which may be different than the above (possibly other routes). If this is the case the fact that we havent received anything in OZ probably a good thing, i.e. the only route we have to potentially worry about is to Europe.

However I'm not so sure this is definitive, the page shown above hardly seems so to me.

That seems to be happening - hence likely they are actually reassessing the entire market. Not happy :/
Yeah possibly, or alternately while we think we are important in OZ Lifemiles are less likely to think that way and hence they may only be reviewing the major routes and impacts which would be US and Europe. We can but hope!

Regardless of how much they raise the cost of points and redemptions, they will still be absurdly cheap compared with normal revenue tickets imo.

On the page which details the changes. Only lists the Sth American countries as being affected
Presuming you are talking about the page above it only list the South American countries because the table only refers to Avianca flights. The bit about Star Alliance flights does not lay out which are affected except that they are from Europe. Bolding is mine.

From October 15[SUP]th[/SUP], 2014, redemption fares for flights with Avianca will change, which include reductions and increases, as shown in the following table:

Yes, but I would assume that if they planned on system wide changes, they would be more specific about them. The notification appears to only be referencing Sth America. It's probably a case of watch this space for the updated redemption table once they figure it out. I hope that Australian redemptions are so minor for them that they will just leave them as they are.

Personally would regard that as a hope rather than assumption, Lifemiles have made unannounced changes in the past to the extent that bloggers have been saying over and over last two years that they may devaue at any time without warning so not sure you can assume they will be specific, just giving us notice is an advance on the last times. And the bit about Star Alliance is anything but specific. Like you though I hope it only affects what they have detailed to date but the vagueness in the *A wording does give me concern that this hope/assumption may prove invalid.

Agree totally with the last sentence, I think we are a bit player in this and most likely impacts are America's (both South and North) and Europe.

Yeah, I always hope for the best. But in this case they are being reasonably specific with their changes although they are only releasing the point changes for Avianca redemptions. I guess we will find out on October 15th what the real story is.

Re: Avianca Lifemiles will ¨commence reassesment of redemptions¨. Am feeling alar...

Just received an email about 30 sec ago - with an updated A* award chart.

Looks like the main impact (from Oz) is to US/Americas, where one-way has gone up by as much as 20k

C6-C2 one-way F is now 115k (vs 110k)

Re: Avianca Lifemiles will ¨commence reassesment of redemptions¨. Am feeling alar...

Email has gone out:

To maintain a reasonable relation between the miles we charge for redemptions and the commercial fares available in the market, adjustments are necessary at times.

In this occasion, we are announcing changes to our redemption fares for flights with Avianca and Star Alliance member airlines. With these changes, some destinations will require more miles and others will reduce the amount of miles required. Some routes will not have variations.

To be sure that our members have the opportunity to understand all changes before these take place, all modifications will be effective from October 15[SUP]th[/SUP], 2014.
