Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

Up to end last year many people were being given points to continue keeping their card.
I had a friend who had the free green card given 34000 pts to not cancel his card at anniversary.:shock:
has anyone been given points to continue to maintain their card recently?

Nothing for me. Such bonuses would stop me churning so many cards.

No offer of bonus nor fee waiver on QF Ultimate amex, in may 2015. Edit: so I went through with my cancellation threat.

I received 30,000 points to cover $199 Platinum Edge annual fee in June 2015.

nothing when i cancelled my edge (although my spend was quite low).

offered a transfer to fee free velocity AE when threatening to cancel my velocity platinum.

seems like they have increased the spend levels to qualify for the bonuses as I have received bonus points, had fees waived and hotel vouchers in the past.

Called for a friend early November got 44 k called for me got 36 k
they said it goes on spend but I seem to see it going down by 6 k every year to retain.
both of us plat charge

I received 30,000 points to cover $199 Platinum Edge annual fee in June 2015.

I just thought "I should do this". Then realised my edge is free and grandfathered on the charge. They'd probably pay me to cancel it!

Called Amex today with intention to downgrade the edge card. Got an offer of 23k points. Accepted and go ahead with new Essential card... Feel happy today.

I've been unsuccessful with the Edge, and they cite the free flight as the reason. Let's see how I fare next year with the Plat Charge.

I am amazed that I got 36k points on my reserve back in March. With free flight to NZ, and a monthly spend on that card these days of <$2k (although it used to be $30-40k pm until a few years ago when I started diverting to other cards) I wouldn't have thought I was worth keeping.
