How to get started

We’ll be on here until 5pm today (AEDT) with any questions you may have.

Yours sincerely,

Velocity Frequent Flyer

lol thanks for the 'early' heads up...only 12 hours after it went public in the media ;)

With the push towards increasing more and more velocity points users with the likes of BP and now Flybuys will you be increasing availability for rewards flights? There is already a lot of discussion about the limited availability.

Increasing strain on the already limited availability could render the points worthless for travel?

May be a q for the flybuys rep but can one link to earn both Etihad Guest Tier Miles and Velocity Status Credits or only one?

Does the bonus count towards the annual transfer limit?

The conversion rate seems suspiciously similar to the WWR > QFF conversion, but it's great to see competition. Hoping to continue to see bonus offers and status credits becoming a part of the competitive environment.

Already linked and transferred points, always happy for new easy ways to earn more points.

Thanks,

Edit: Points transferred this morning are already in my Velocity account plus bonus

flybuys members can link to both Velocity and Etihad Guest, and earn Status Credits from Velocity, and Etihad Guest Tier Miles from Etihad Guest. The current 15% bonus from Velocity does not count towards your yearly cap.

Hi,

Thank you for the questions.

I am pleased to confirm that you can link both your Etihad Guest account and your Velocity membership. Once linked, you will continue to earn Etihad Guest miles and Velocity Status Credits.

The bonus 15% Velocity Points is on top of the 138,000 flybuys points maximum transfer amount per calendar year.

Many thanks
Velocity

A very nice add to FB which has been long overdue. A higher (0.435pt/$ vs 0.400/$) conversion rate than to EY as well. The minimum 2000pt conversion to VA is far better than the 10000pt minimum to EY.

With the SC earn, I would have preferred that the new Gateway fares earned the same as the old Saver fares rather than earning SC through Coles.

Re: Flybuys teams up with Velocity Rewards

This will stop so many expired accounts!

Australia's highest-earning Velocity Frequent Flyer credit card: Offer expires: 21 Jan 2025
- Earn 60,000 bonus Velocity Points
- Get unlimited Virgin Australia Lounge access
- Enjoy a complimentary return Virgin Australia domestic flight each year

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

At last I have something worthwhile to do with the accumulation of Flybuy points from shopping - I wonder what impact it will have on the recent Flybuys Travel promotions?

Re: Flybuys teams up with Velocity Rewards

I haven't received any notification from Flybuys about this yet. Why tell the press before telling your members? I heard about it from an article my phone suggested I would like to read.

Re: Flybuys teams up with Velocity Rewards

Well done to Coles for further strengthening their loyalty program. By partnering with VA, they really can offer Aussie consumers an alternative to the competition.
EY has some brand recognition that Australian consumers can relate to, but naturally partnering with a well known domestic player such as VA where the brand equity is far stronger will resignate Better.

I suspect both supermarket chains will now battle it out in the form of who can offer the best targeted bonus points in order to out do each other.

I for one am happy to continue to shop around for the best bonus points offering. Currently I'm in Week 3 ( out of 4) for 12,000 bonus points ($110 spend required) at Woolies, but after this, I'll happily switch and shop at Coles if they dangle the right carrot in front of me.

Im not fussed on collecting VA points, although flybys allows points to be redeemed through the flybys travel portal on most major carriers including QF, so even for the QF loyalists, shopping at Woolies isn't the only option.

I'm glad they finally sorted out negotiations with Velocity. There were rumours about this venture which started before the big revamp of Flybuys a few years ago ( I think it was April 2012).

Yes, flybys have had a previous relationship with VA before ditching them for webjet for a couple of years .
I believe that Coles have it covered as VA loyalists can exchange flybys points for velocity points, whilst those not attached to VA can exchange flybys points via the flybys travel portal for cash fares for other carriers including One World carriers such as QF, CX or MH.

Interesting! I'm an Aldi / local IGA shopper, but coles is my go to on the way home from work (that pattern may change!)

Regarding the $100 spend for 1 status credit- does the $100 need to be spent in one transaction, or will my total spend be summed at the end of the month (then divided by $100)? I rarely spend $100 at coles at one time, but would spend ~$200 a month.

thanks!

Re: Flybuys teams up with Velocity Rewards

Hi Guys,

Can someone help me with this: You will be able to link one member of your flybuys household to a nominated Velocity membership. This linked person will be the recipient of the flybuys points transfer.

is that mean , I can transfer points into TWO different velocity account ? My FB account - Wife is primary , Me secondary.

I'm in the same position - rarely if ever spend more than $100 in one shop at Coles, but would probably have a couple of hundred dollars in smaller shops. From the Flybuys Ts & Cs, it looks like it can be in multiple shops as it says "in total":

In non-promotional periods the earn rate for Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits will be 1 Status Credit for every $100 spent (including GST) each calendar month in total across Coles, Coles Online, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor.

Hi VFF

Just a question regarding the SC earn. I have linked my husband's Velocity account to our Flybuys (both our cards are on the one "household" FB account). The Ts & Cs seems to indicate that we need to swipe my husband's card for the SC earn:

  • Once the accounts have been successfully linked, this linked Velocity Frequent Flyer member will earn Status Credits when they scan their flybuys card on eligible purchases at Coles, Coles Online, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor.
Note the reference to "their" card - but does it matter which FB card we use? i.e. if I swipe my FB card when shopping, will that spend count towards the $100 total for the SC earn, or only when we swipe his card (both cards have different numbers)?

Thanks!
