Turkish Airlines Status Match

Wonder how they will look at my case, a person from the other side of the world where they do not fly to. Plus I'm unlikely to fly with them other than el cheap US Airways miles redemption.

But would be good to have StarA Gold for lounge access.

I thought about faking the activity statements to make it look like I go to Turkey more often than I do (which is never)

I thought about fobbing my Mum's statement and saying it was my own. I just said in my message to them "I fly around Europe quite a bit (total BS may I add?) and having to fly via Istanbul doesn't really bother me". Just sent them the cover page of my FF online login and said "oh we don't really get statements only points balances". Hope it works for me. It probably won't.

Be interested to see how you go.

Doesn't seem like they're accepting Virgin Aus gold for the status match! Damn ...

Match denied. Only matching to OWE equivalent. So since I'm only SG they won't match.

Hey Flashware,

I got rejected for the Turkish one, but accepted for the SAS match. Go figure.

They rejected me on the basis that "only Oneworld Emerald members are eligible, as this is equivalent to Star Alliance Gold" or something to that effect. I deleted the email - didn't see any point in keeping it. Fairly sure it's equivalent to Sapphire, but anyway.

Got an email from Eurobonus just now telling me my request had been approved, and I've been matched to Eurobonus Gold. Pretty excited!

What are the requalification requirements once the 1st year of the match is up? Doubt it's going to be easier than A3 to maintain... :)

According to a picture on this blog, it lasts until 06-2014:

Update on SAS Eurobonus Star Alliance Gold Status Match - Credentials Received | LoyaltyLobby

Beyond 2014, I don't really care. I'm only using it as I do a little bit of grab-a-seat travel on NZ around NZ so this basically means free koru. I can't justify buying Koru for 7-8 trips a year on NZ regional flights. No doubt by 2014 my circumstances will have changed and I will assess how best to proceed then.

Signed up to Miles&Smiles when I read the offer on AusBT last Friday 18th May and sent my QF WP details straight away. Got my approval email on Tuesday 22th May.

"We would be honoured to see you as an Elite member for your future flights by Turkish Airlines."

I've never flown to Europe before, let alone Turkey, but the Star Alliance Gold status may come in handy for any Star Alliance airlines I may wish to use in the next while. Of course, my Velocity Platinum status helps on Air NZ anyway, but this will just help to cover any gaps.

A friend, who applied using Velocity Platinum status, was rejected: his email said they are only look for OW, Sky Team or Star Alliance elite members to status match. Interesting that they are not afraid to poach from their own alliance!

Hi Mgjdubs,

Congratulations on your status match - I had a look at the link and it says it is only valid for new members with Hong Kong or Chinese addresses; did you apply with an Australian address or did you have a China/HK mailing address?

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I use a mailing forwarding service in Hong Kong for certain things. Which came in very handy as it turns out. Hope this helps!

Regards,
Matt

Oh, I'm sorry people for hijacking the thread :/ I realise it can be irritating!!!

I feel like that sounded sarcastic, it wasn't meant to be that way.

I'll forgive you if you give me the name of the mail forwarding provider in HK that you use!
