Turkish Airlines Status Match

Extremely annoying since i've provided them with SAS Eurobonus Gold and AirNZ Airpoints Gold statements and cards.

I sent them another email with the statements reattached asking them (politely) to look at it a little more carefully.

So your goal is to match to as many airlines as you can, and then lose them all because you can’t possibly fly enough miles on all of them to keep them?

I’ve toyed with the idea of matching to AirNZ for a while, but until I am going to be flying with them, I don’t see the point. As I’ll lose the status and then when I go to get it again wont be able to.

I might take you up on that offer, but I'm not sure I will 'get' anything from TK or SK which which I don't already 'get' from SQ (or *cough* COdbaUA).

No worries :)

Had no end of trouble getting the web site to sign me us for a Miles and Smiles account number. Had to ring the call centre in Aust 1800750849 and be put through to Turket (local cost for my call). They set me up.

I rec'd a response from TK to the Status match email I sent within 2 days, so have emailed them the M&S number now and await with baited breath!!

I didn't (and still haven't) received confirmation of the match but I logged into my account online and it shows as Elite which is equivalent to Star Gold/top tier.

With the RGN 'mistake fare' I have booked to Europe in January I'll fall just 3k short of requalifying but from what I can see miles can be purchased for EUR25 per 1k, up to 10k per year.

If I was in your position I would wait until you are likely to be flying. Most frequent flyer cards have no value unless you actually fly...

Also, Penny is still at my office in Melbourne, LOL

I doubt that purchased miles will count for elite status...

Your best option may be to position to RGN on SQ or TG if you haven't already booked those sectors.

My first thought was purchased miles wouldn't either but I couldn't seem to find anything on their website that indicated to the contrary.

My positioning flight to RGN is booked on 3K but I am leaving RGN at the end of it all on TG to BKK. Unfortunately that only earns a few hundred miles.

Sze Sze is a slack … I’ll send her a message and get her onto you :p

Perhaps you should do a TR of Penny’s day in the office, I’ll give you the password to post it up on the blog :p

AirNZ for Virgin lounge access, Eurobonus cause I have a HK address (and why not since its free?), and now matching to TK because it's the easiest to maintain status with (with the exception being aegean). I don't usually fly *A, so obviously i'm going to try and get into the program which is easiest to maintain *A Gold with.

As i've said above, I have my reasons for matching when I do. Since Eurobonus was only matching for a limited time, I couldn't exactly do it at any time I liked. And i've got quite a few flights on virgin booked, but only silver status, and would prefer lounge access, hence AirNZ match. And i'd like to maintain *A Gold, so that's why i'm going for TK, because status lasts 2 years with TK, and its easy to maintain (20,000 in first year or 37,500 in second year)

Fair enough. My post was actually directed at Sam, rather than you.

Either way, it is worth keeping in the back of your head that many status matches are often a one-time only deal.

Both:
1. They are not offered frequently (perhaps only once every few years, or once ever?)
2. Many carriers will refuse a second status match if they have previously matched you

Oh yeah i'm fully aware, status matches are a rare thing when they do come along and they'll only ever come along once, but by the time they're due for expiry, i'll be flying enough to earn/retain gold :)

I gather the Gold card doesnt issue until you do your 1st flight on TK.
At least thats what the call centre dude told me?

If you want to match to SAS and need an HK address, happy to provide mine, and then my parents will forward the package to me and me to you, just send me a PM. anat0l, I think, did this a couple years ago to get BD status I think.

My dad did the SAS match as he's in HK and got the card and tags in the mail not long after.

Just having registered to this forum,I`m not allowed to send a PM to you.Living in Germany,I`m interested in your offer of providing a HKG address for status match with SAS Eurobonus.I`ve been a member of FT.com for quite a long time with the same alias -ringbahn -as in this forum.Would be happy to hear from you.

has anyone outside Asia been successful with an SAS match? i'm gonna give both a go

You need to credit a flight. It's in their T&C.

My card arrived today without a flight being credited. :DTheir pack contained a set of luggage tags
(not the same size as the FF card) and two very flimsy baggage straps.

Just to clarify - is it Turkish or SAS that lasts until 2014? Currently QF WP until at least Apr 2013 (though not likely to re-qual), and wouldn't mind *G for flights within Europe (even if I credit to UA and just flash the *G card for lounge access) :)

I have sent you a PM on FT, where my name is also samh004 (same on MiP).

Plausible, I just saw Air NZ as being Star Alliance too, but I do recall it’s hard to retain their status, especially if not flying on their metal.

To get NZ*G (the first such level, not Gold Elite), you can get it without setting foot on a NZ aircraft (i.e. just fly other *A).

Note that unless you fly at least one NZ sector per membership year, Airpoints charges an "account keeping fee" of 30 Airpoints Dollars (I think that's the amount) per year, unless you do not have enough Airpoints Dollars to pay this amount (you can't have a negative balance of Airpoints Dollars, NZ don't keep an account on you and they don't send you a bill).

Overall, I don't find Airpoints attractive due to....well, Airpoints Dollars, unless you are really flying them a lot. By that time, one should weigh up whether Velocity is already a better deal.
