I'm very impressed by the speed at which this all happened. This is the email i received from them:

Dear SeatBackForward,

Referring to your e-mail message dated July 11, 2012,

Elite card status match has been provided and your membership has been updated as '' Elite Card '' level.
We would like to be honoured to see you as an Elite member for your future flights by Turkish Airlines.

Kind Regards,
TURKISH AIRLINES INC.
CUSTOMER RELATIONS MANAGEMENT

Elite until 31st July 2014.

Even though cards/email indicate 2014, fingers crossed that TK honors that status to 2014. The only why I raise this is because the previous AF/KL status match, expiry dates were up to two years and quite a few of us here had their status downgrade right to the lowest level (no soft landing) at the end of that same year because we did not requalify in those few months.

<off topic>

Was it possible that said people did not earn a single status mile on Flying Blue before year's end?

The Flying Blue T&Cs mention that you need at least one status mile per year in order to qualify for a soft landing. The way things are going, I'm destined for a hard landing.

I've been told Qantas is a similar affair (and currently my status credit count for the year on QF is 0, so this WP better....)

As I think I mentioned in person a few weeks ago from my experience QF is a hard landing if you don't have 4 squiggles. (NB This info is a few years out of date).

Can we still status match with TK? Or has it expired? Would like to status match with CX Gold.

You can give it a go, though if you are not an alliance top tier (viz. oneworld Emerald, Star Alliance Gold or Skyteam Elite Plus), experience has shown that your chances of being granted a successful match are limited.

I applied for the status match last Thursday and after scanning my QFF Plat I was approved for Elite card yesterday. I'm very pleased and look forward to flying via Istanbul very soon. *A Gold on my travels thru Asia will be welcome too.

The matching is still happening. I have just been upgraded to 'Elite' card level till July 31 2014. Might even fly with TK next year when I am in Europe.

after not hearing from them for 2 months, (apart from the spam they send) received my ELITE points statement. :)

I did not receive my elite card. When I emailed them, they said they will only send the card if I credit a TK or *alliance flight to my account.

*Walks to the corner to salivate in an unseemly manner*

Will be my first trip with lounge access too. My initial feeling of disappointment with a 12 hour connection at IST for the return leg is rapidly dissipating.

Just did the inbound visit to the IST lounge and it was a delight. Genuinely looking forward to the return leg now.

To stay slightly OT:

This announcement just relates to the domestic terminal, so be aware if you are transferring to an internal flight that the lounge may not be what you expect. The international lounge is unaffected.

How long did you stay in the Int lounge? I am considering a transit time of either 2 or 6 hours, but not knowing the lounge, don't know how long is too long. (If there can be such a thing )

6 hours is probably too long.... 3 is about right. They have an excellent buffet - freshly cooked kebabs, a whole dessert section.. probably the best *A J lounge

I was there for about four hours (the flight from PEK came in a little early). Had a three course breakfast which included some absolutely delightful baklava and semolina. Thankfully my flight left early enough to prevent me from eating enough cake that I wouldn't be able to fit in my seat. It was early morning and therefore a bit busy as TK does a whole round of European flights from 6-9 am. The crowd does start thinning out at around 7:30-7:45 though.

Next time I'll be there for about nine hours so I'll have a long shower and might try to get some time in the sleeping rooms.

This must be one of the fastest status matches, emailed them yesterday afternoon and got an email 6 hrs later welcoming me to Elite level!

Received my Miles & Smiles welcome pack today, and here it is - complete with bag tags and leather straps:
