So I found my Qantas Platinum card in mint condition. Time to send off for status match.

If you paid the full amount for heart surgery, I think you'd get just enough to have a decent J or possibly F award :p Plus, I wonder if your travel insurance could cover it.

Good luck.

Signed up yesterday and sent off an email asking if a status match to Gold was possible. Checked my emails this morning and I had a reply indicating that my email had been forwarded to the appropriate department and that I should check my account online. On doing so I found that I'd been set to Gold until 31 Aug 2014.....nice. I'm WP and took a QF trip to Europe in June which might have helped.

Has anyone actually flown with TK? I am heading to Europe with them next month and would appreciate some advice regarding seating on their A330-300 and A340-300 in J.

Yes have flown on the new A333s.

Seats are cradle like with ottoman. Can confirm its fully flat. Catering is standard 3 course, however do like their selection of Hors d'oeuvres [h=3][/h]Ex2 for IFE

Can't say the same for 332s or 340s - think there still mostly older seats and Collins IFE

I think then that I will have new out and old back. At least I will be able to compare the two. The 333 J sounds good pmdg7444. I will have to make use of the IST lounge to fortify me for the return leg.

Flew on a TK 777 last month in Y. Obviously I can't really tell you what the A330s will be like in J, but the food even in Y was delightful.

Which route was that? Was that to/from NRT? I've got the 77W from IST-NRT.

PEK-IST return. It was the 77W (the one with the Barcelona paintjob, no less! :D). Should also give credit to the IFE. Lots of variety and plenty to choose from, even for longer flights.

Can someone who knows please explain the difference between turkishairlines.com and tsy.com?

Sorry that was a typo. It is indeed thy.com I was referring to.

I still do not quite understand the relationship. The link from the OP goes to boardingarea.com and the link from there goes to thy.com and also mentions to email [email protected]. A little too confusing for me.

It was the Boarding Area blog referenced in the OP which explained (or one of them, anyway) what the method is to obtaining the match. I'm not sure how they got eyes or ears on TK as to the match process, but that's where everyone learned about it.

thy.com is the alternative URL and domain for TK, which is the initials of "Turkish Airlines" when translated into Turkish.

THY is their ICAO code and an acronym for Türk Hava Yolları which is Turkish for Turkish Airlines

I am giving up after 5 emails to these guys. Each time they reply to an email (a delay of approx 2-3 days) they ask me for something that was in the original email....seems like a waste of time to me.

Anyone else have more luck?

Yep I had the status match from QF Platinum to *A Gold a few weeks ago. The welcome pack arrived 2 days ago with a couple of luggage tags, a card, welcome letter - all the usual stuff.

No problem for me either. See my post above...http://www.australianfrequentflyer....airlines-status-match-39599-4.html#post663980

I was matched within 24 hours but haven't received a welcome kit yet. I hope one arrives as I need the Gold card. I attached a recent QF statement with my email and scanned my WP card and sent that too. That's all.
