Forgot to add ... what does float my boat is when taxiing at LAX on, say an AA domestic departure, there are two enormous QF A380s parked, dwarfing everything else!

I have to agree with others - step on a Qantas plane, after a big trip, and you just sink into your seat and relax. Yes even down in the cheap seats! I recall the first visit to France; off a plane at CDG to see armed police in riot gear with sub machine guns.....just strolling up and down. Yikes!

And on my very first o/s trip, (back in the day when you had to declare/pay duty on goods) having a fair amount of undeclared stuff - nothing naughty, nice leather jacket and bags - in a back pack. Saying to the customs guy - oh keep talking, it's so lovely to be home and hearing an Aussie accent. He laughed and sent me on my way.

I am going to Thailand for my birthday in February. It is going to cost extra but I am going via HKG for the simple reason of flying the 747 again. I just cannot get enough. It will be a sad day.

I agree with most posters - once at an airport in a foreign country and I see that red roo I am very happy - even my 4 year old knows that means we are going home not onto the next location and hotel.

I know. The A380s are OK but not as good as 747.

Do you think the QF 747s will be around another 3-4 years? It would be nice to be on one for all my trips to Thailand but sometimes limited for time so need to book something different.

What I want to know is why the OP does that itinerary to themselves when they could fly direct BOG direct to DFW on AA and (until the QF8 BNE tech stop ceases) then could have flown direct DFW-BNE on QF? Why put yourself through SCL and SYD?

EDIT: Scratch that - just saw the stupid connection times in DFW - you basically have to waste an entire day in DFW....

But agree with the general sentiment here that stepping on a QF usually does elicit a 'home' feeling.

When we fly MEX-SCL-SYD, it's a great excuse for a stopover, a day-trip skiing between the flights. That is however all on LAN, so your first welcome back is a "happy" immigrations official.

When boarding QF flights from LAX, having crew with an Australian sense of humour is a welcome reprise from the sterility of TBIT.

Yep, connections The quickest is actually MDE-MIA-LAX-BNE, but the return is impossible with checked luggage. Basically every BNE-LAX flight arrive early morning in LAX, but the connection to other airlines to get down to Colombia is VERY tight. So essentially you have a 24 hr stopover in the US coming back.

Also, going the southern route, you get to see Antartic ice Will add a photo when I find iPhone cord......
