A flight was going to bust curfew in SYD, so they cancelled the flight (the plane weighed too much and they couldn't offload in time).

Of course, FF's know to read the website policies. The refreshment voucher policy here suggests "You will be entitled to refreshment vouchers at 2-hour intervals while you are in the airport awaiting your rescheduled service.".

However, the lounge manager was adamant that "if you're a member of the lounge (or business/platinum/gold), we'll feed you in the lounge instead". And if you don't have access, we'll give you $10.

I've asked to see the written policy to suggest this is the case, but nothing yet.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

If you're in the Lounge, why would you want a refreshment voucher?

And if the flight was cancelled because it was too late for curfew, they wouldn't just be giving refreshment vouchers anyway - that's an overnight delay.

Because everyone outside the lounge would be receiving a voucher(s), which could end up totalling $100's when combined.

These vouchers don't actually need to be used at food outlets, but also milkbars/newsagents.

Syd may be stupidly different, but I co.pleted over $200 ish of shopping (junk food for entire holiday!) With the use of 4 vouchers!

Flight delayed = 2x vouchers provided.

Flight cancelled = another 2 vouchers.

Went "shopping" with all our vouchers combined!

Ps: have a calculator on hand (or phone), as change is not given. So we just just only a few dollars extra to get it all spent.

PPS: Noticed the link provided is Virgin, we were with QFF, so there may be (i doubt!) different rules.

Because I want a real meal, and waiting until they put out the chicken buffet isn't great on an 8 hour delay

That was caused by issues within Virgin's control, therefore the policy should apply, no?

I would be happy with an overnight stay if that was on offer. Correct me if Im wrong, but you are wanting vouchers for every 2 hours you were on the ground? Did they accommodate you? What was the $$$ value of the vouchers? I remember when they did the initial lounge upgrade in BNE many years ago they stuffed the tiles up and couldn't let us in. We got $30 vouchers IIRC in lieu of lounge entry. Even guests got it.
