Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I had a OWCA itinerary under construction at the time of the last points cost change.
The first leg was booked before the change, and the itinerary was changed many times both before and after the points cost change date.
The itinerary continued to be priced at the old rate.

Good to hear. I'm hoping it works that again but won't be surprised if it does. I won't be able to book the final legs until Oct/Nov anyway and will then have until our first flight in April 2026 to make any changes so plenty of time yet. The hard part (maybe impossible) is trying to get it all under 34,000 miles. I'm starting to think it just can't be done. If I can't find a way before April 2026 I'll just have to book two seperate trips.

Could I please have some advice regarding my OWCFR booking.

So far I have booked:
SYD-HKG-YVR Stop1
YVR-LHR-MAD Stop 2
MAD-VCE Stop 3
I am then planning a driving trip from VCE down to DBV.
But I am having trouble getting flights to work after that.

I would like suggestions as to the best way to get from DBV to CMB for Stop 4.
I then plan on CMB to SYD home.

Plan a) DBV-HEL-CDG on AY then CDG-CMB on UL
BUT flights from DBV-HEL only leave Mon, Wed, Fri
and flights from CDG to CMB only leave Sun, Wed, Fri
so I cant make it work with a transit in CDG: I would have to make a Stop 4 in Paris

Plan b) DBV-HEL-HKG on AY then HKG-CMB on CY
BUT this involves a long 10hr stopover at HEL

Plan c) DBV-HEL-DEL on AY then DEL-CMB on UL
BUT this involves a long 13hr stopover in DEL

Plan d) ZAG-DOH-CMB on QR
BUT I can't seem to get the Qantas booking site to accept DOH
This seems to be the most direct route BUT I cant seem to get it to work.

I have done extensive searches on FlightConnections and tried lots of dummy routes/dates on Qantas MultiLeg booking site...but I can't seem to find a solution that gets me from DBV to CMB without requiring a STOP on the way. I want to avoid consuming another STOP here, as I would like to keep a STOP up my sleeve in case I have trouble getting back from CMB to SYD.

Ay suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

If you can’t get it all to work inside the OWCA itinerary, then it might help to buy (🙀) a short separate flight from DBV to a larger airport hub, eg Rome or Milan.
That would also get you another ‘free’ stopover, and might also save you a few miles.

So if i go to multi city search, just enter in any two cities for the first flight… MEL to SYD for example.

After that you can enter in DOH, CMB, ZAG ets as city pairs. That will at least show you the availability!

I think it just doesn’t like starting tickets in ZAG or DOH because of ticketing currency or something? But if the sectors come after you can search.

Is a long stopover really that bad? I would pick Plan B and take the train into town for a few hours. Helsinki is a very pleasant little city to spend a few hours and the key to successful OWA's is that you need to be flexible.

Heads up for those looking for flights Oz to Europe late Jan and early to mid Feb 2026.
MAS seems to have released to QFF business reward seats Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur ( on about half the dates) and KUL-CDG in biz again about half the dates.
Some SYD-KUL also released but not as many as from BNE.
For those not doing a OWA booking, there are quite a lot of biz rewards extending into mid Feb from KUL to LHR and other European destinations via Muscat or Dubai.
Happy hunting.

Hi friends 👋🏻,

After some more experienced advice please! I've dived into my oneworld Classic Flight booking and have a few questions:

1. Does a booking need to have a Qantas flight booking plus (at least) two oneworld Member Airline bookings? Or isn't a Qantas flight needed?

2. Is there a time cap for my complete trip? 12 months?

Thanks so much travellers,

Josh 👍🏻

Welcome to AFF. 2 x oneworld airlines, and QF does not need to be one of those two.
Wow thanks so much for the speedy reply. Am I right in saying all flights need to happen within a 12 month period? Just that I am planning to be away for a year so need to plan as such with my flights.

Just to clarify, if QF flights are part of the itinerary, then flights on at least two other oneworld airlines are also to be included. However, if there are no QF flights, then at least two other oneworld carriers are still needed in the itinerary.

Re-edited for further clarification

Yes that makes sense. Much clearer than their t&c's below which for me infers 2 others + Qantas.

14.4.1 A oneworld Classic Flight Reward is a Classic Flight Reward Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Member Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Member Airline.

My wording wasn’t all that great, so I’ve re-edited my earlier posts. My understanding is that the booking has a 12-moth validity. Someone else may clarify.

As mentioned, 2 other OW airlines are needed to be valid (QF is not needed).

2. Is there a time cap for my complete trip? 12 months?
12 months from commencement of journey, but given you can't add legs once you start the journey and awards only release around 300-360 days out, in practical terms you can only really book around 11 months journey at maximum.
