As some of you might be aware, my father passed away 1 day before his 80th birthday (a bit over two years ago).

My mum and Dad were living the dream (as usual) and travelling this great continent that many of us choose to call home and were, at the time, travelling and camping in the the Kimberley's, in Australias fabulous North-West.

It mattered not, which part of the globe they wandered......they've been to a lot of it....... but moreso what they discovered. My parents were the travellers I was inspired to be..... open-minded, inquisitive, explorative and accepting. The quintessential wanderers, yet devoted family people!

I'm eternally grateful to QF for their inspiring treatment of my mother when dad passed and I could never be critical of their awe-inspiring performance in the face of an "incident". QF went beyond what I would expect of a commerial airline. Congrats QF!

But I'm not writing this bit of history for sentimentality reasons.....

I'm writing it becuse it was my mum's birthday today.......her 80th!

.........but also to thank the AFF community for the unbelievable support we rececieved upon Dads death.

Mum was used to travel, yet she fell into a hole when Dad died. That "hole" was filled with the support from AFF.

Buzz and Aeolus were great...so too was Buzz's +1 and all the other AFFers on that "Buzz's epic Clare Valley" wine bus extraordinaire tour!

Anyhow...thanks guys and gals.....you did indeed help!......who said computers were rubbish??......Oh yes, it was Mum!

It was a pleasure to meet your mum. She is certainly a very active 80 year old and such a lovely person. Hope I can be as active if I make it to 80.
Hope she had a fantastic birthday and has many more to come.

Thanks jojen...we spent it in the revolving restaurant on top of the Crowne Plaza at Surfers/Braodbeach. In true style, we got turfed out for overstaying!

Great day, though!

This is just beautiful news, just so wonderful to hear about so much good in an otherwise very sad situation.

Big pat on the back to the AFF crowd, and a huge happy birthday to your mum Swanning_it :D

Lovely place to have dinner. Did you a make a booking for your mum's 90th birthday?

No 90th booking, but I thought it had improved since the last time we were there. The day was perfect so the views were great (hint to anyone thinking of going....lunch is better than dinner for the views) and the food offering was actually quite good, considering it's a buffet. There was also a promo (when booking you say "I like Fourwinds") which gave a $10 discount per head which is reasonable (cost was $50/head which is heaps cheaper than I thought the place was), so for 10 of us the bill came to about $650 including drinks. Given the novelty of a revolving restaurant with Ok food and pretty good views, I consider that to be pretty decent.

I used 2 IHG dining rewards vouchers there when my wife was here in May last year. Lovely restaurant. Lovely views. Great food but there is just so much food that I can't stop. ;)
