SPG Promotions Thread

me too drron ..i was just doing the numbers and wanting to factor in international credit card fees as it will be settled in the US. this one at 50% is very tempting!

Though from the discussion on FT this is a targeted offer with varying discounts-some get 50%,some 30% and some diddly squat from their reports.mine is 50% and I am seriously considering it.

This year is my first time buying points from any loyalty programme. I made up the +1's SPG account, booked a stay/night and also used his cc to buy SPG points. I guess I'm a bit worried that Marriott may do away with this yet I see value in transferring them through to the airline account. I transferred my SPG points through to AA with the transfer promo on then realised it was probably a mistake given you can buy AA points at a similar value for what I bought SPG points - oops! Going to send them to SQ when the time comes, maybe QF if I need a bit of a top up for an award.

Definitely a big learning year on the accommodation front.

Only 35% for me which doesn't stack up.

Alaska is a good SPG transfer though they also sell miles

Hey there,

Have just seen the SPG targeted offer on buying points. Bare with me through my thought process, hoping to see what everyone thinks on the possibility of it.
I have just signed up for it so am not thinking i will get the 50% off. But as an example will use the 50% discount.

Upon doing some reading - if i bought 20000 points @ 50% discount, this would cost USD350.
If i transfer these points to an airline - say VA, you get 5000 bonus for every 20000 transfer. VA is 1:1 so I would end up with 25000 VA points for USD350 (approx AUD460). Approximates to 1.84c AUD PER POINT.

Now, I also have USD loaded onto my QF card. Although not much, but i could use that card to avoid conversion fees and also accrue 350 QF points in the process.

Does this make sense to everyone else? would this be viable?? 25000 VA points & 350QF points for AUD460.
Also I understand that its maximum 30000 point purchase. Wanted to know if that is per account or per transaction?
If per transaction. Could do 3 x 20000 purchases for 75000 VA points and 1050QF points for AUD1380.

Thanks....

Correct with the transfer i.e. every 20000 SPG transfer will get you 25000 VA points (5K bonus with every 20K transferred). Max purchase is only 30000 SPG per annum per account. Not too sure about the earning on the QF card.

Read this up. Will give you a bit more idea on this.

Bugger. Had 13 nights booked so far with Amex. Fell short of 2 nights to qualify for the 5000 points.

Think I'm good. Contacted Westin Dubai and requested to have the prepaid payment reimbursed and charged to the AMEX instead. That will tally up to 15 nights in total. Finger crossed.

I was saddened to discover that my initial offer of 50% (i have notes on my desk doing the calculations so I know that is what was offered) has changed to 25% logging in today. I never expected it to change so now this is no longer under consideration for me.

I was offered 50%, but didn't strike right away... went back in about 24 hours later after doing some math, and was only offered 25%!

What section shoud i go to to check how many % i got offer . New to SPG should i log in to points accoint instead of SPG

Anyone with 50% off wanna help me out by Buying and Gift Starpoints? Am in Melbourne CBD so can do face to face. Happy to pay you $50 for your effort.

These targeted bonus' are so cruel! It's not fair that some might only get 25% off but others get 50%. I was one of the lucky ones to have a 50% discount, so if anyone was chasing them at the maximum discount send me a pm and we can arrange the gift.

Such is life. Note there's a max 50k you can buy or gift, so if you've bought heaps, there's not much left to gift.
