in a black hole :?:...oh no , I shouldn't have mentioned that, as it will lead to one of NM's favourite topics ...

:shock:For all you eastern staters, right now may be today. but for me in the west it is still yesterday. I need to go to sleep and join you in today.

I like the way all the West Australians voted 'none of the above' last weekend, and no-one knows yet who will be in charge of the state :)

yes and the squabble with the nationals holding the power. Can you imagine the size of the ego's?????

So why do you get the luxury of a sleep in?

Because a mate came over for a few drinks and a chat. Then at 12am his car alarm would not turn off, so he escided to stay. We then thought we would watch some Over There. We ended up watching the first 5 and going to bed rather late :)

Damn independents. And minor parties. And rats. And voters. And democracy.

I think the minor parties do so well at the moment because of the majors tendency to promise, promise, promise and then break these promises :!:

People are sick to death of it. They certainly are in Perth from what I heard last week.

Don Chipp was my hero (in the 70's); shame the rest of his mob were eventually corrupted.

One thing I like about preferential voting is that you actually vote against a candidate, not for one.

i.e. You can be sure the candidate you put last will not get your vote; any other might.

(And I NEVER follow the Parties' "how to vote" cards).

(As a student I used to work in polling booths - the party scrutineers hated those ballot papers filled out in non "conformist" fashion.)

(and yes I do number the senate paper 1-176 or whatever - normally from bottom to top in each of the columns).

I used to count those. Hard work when someone seemingly randomly numbered the boxes...

Me too ...

The system where you simply put a 1 on a box at the top of the list to me is a bit drone like.

There is supposed to be published at each polling booth a list of who gets the preferences if you do the [1]. I asked at a local booth once and no-one wanted to know what I was talking about.

So I have filled it out that a way ever since - my perverse revenge on the party system.
