Most of the VER fans we came across seemed to just be wearing RBR shirts, very tame!

Well I guess it will happen to all of us one day, but it's still sad. 70 isn't old imo! Niki Lauda - Wikipedia

He came from a period when F1 for me was fun to watch. I still remember listening to the BBC in a car park in Scotland hearing about his crash, 1976 and fearing the worst.

My friend and I went to Brands Hatch that year and also Austria, so I'm thinking we saw him in the race before his crash in Germany in July. Hard to believe that he still came second that year and was back racing in Italy in September.

Yes I just saw that on The Guardian site - very sad as he wasn't very old (and I'm getting close to that myself).
I always liked his no BS attitude. This has unfortunately disappeared in modern corporate F1. At the same time I think a lot of F1 drivers who had their racing career in the 60s/70s must have felt they were living on borrowed time anyway...

It may well be the only thing that makes me watch the next race, to see what tribute there is.

With this season having become a procession very early on and not looking back I fear I've had enough now and won't bother watching the rest. At least last yer the first half of the season had some promise......

RIC will start from 6th
Starting from 6th on the grid at Monaco is not much worse than starting from 2nd on Grid, both generally much much worse than starting from pole.

If on pole, all the driver needs to do is keep ahead (passing is nearly impossible) and hope the crew don't forget to be around when you come in for a tire change.

Hopefully Red Bull haven't shared that 'skill' with Renault.
