It would have been fine if everyone else had pitted for the safety car

Yes but the next 5 were smart enough to realise that track position was more crucial and you'd come out behind Norris on Medium (and ultimately Raikonnen who went super long on softs)

Phenomenal last few laps by RIC. He was 15 seconds behind GRO with 4 laps to go and got to within 5. Shame the broadcasters thought there were only 2 drivers in this race.

I have just purchased a ticket to the British Grand Prix. Albert Park & Silverstone in the one year, not a bad effort! And as an added bonus, given my VA SC rollover date is 15 July, bringing this trip forward to make the GP might actually deliver enough SCs to gift VA SG - provided the SCs don't get lost in the black hole. I'm flying SQ so we will just have to hope I guess.

Does the lack of recent activity on this thread mean a fall in interest in the 2019 F1 season?

I was just thinking the same. I was in the air during the race so stayed away until I had watched the highlights. A solid 5th from RIC, and I reckon VET* was wronged.

Mind you, the lack of activity might be the time difference. Montreal is not a race I usually watch live.

The time of night (310am start) in Australia plus middle of the long weekend probably disminished the interest in Canadian GP.

Good result for Renault and pleased for RIC especially with P4 start slot. Gasly’s form for RB must be a concern.

FWIW the stewards made the right decision re: VET based on the current rules - but the rules are wrong.

You make a mistake you gotta be careful coming back on track.
Had Lewis not braked there would have been no sympathy for Vettel

Looks like another boring race in France, the apt home of a concrete track

What’s the consensus about RIC ‘s penalty?
The officials are being consistent but it will make for even more boring racing if they continue down this path. Its hard enough to pass already in the mid field. I disagree with his first penalty but cant argue about the second one for passing Raikonen while clearly outside the track limits.

Agree for consistency they didn't have much choice.

But considering the context 10secs was a lot in total given Gasly wasn't even in the fight.
Personally would prefer the penalty be 1 or 2 places with exact timing to be determined post race, but then that doesn't work if pitting.

On the first one I think Norris made it worse by taking too much evasive action.
