General Medical issues thread

Nope - they have done all sorts of tests and no ANA of any type.
Ok. I seem to have a persistent one and a pattern of speckled and homogenous. Which doesn’t exactly give an accurate diagnosis.
I have a bit of all of the above and with APS the blood clotting one.

I had the whooping cough ADT on Monday in preparation for the grandchild. Probably bad timing as I had a scratchy throat. Now I don’t have a voice and the occasional yuck coughing fits. I’m just googling Whooping Cough symptoms but in reality it’s just travel related. Everyone on the cruise 2 weeks ago had kennel cough.

I think she was checking for drug induced Lupus as she asked about rashes, but I haven’t had any. I do hope this all clears up in the next couple of months, as I still have my “real” problems to deal with.

Dr FM, Master FM and Mr FM all got Whooping cough. Master FM was about 12, he got it and spread it - fortunately didn’t spread to me or Ms FM, although we ended up on antibiotics as well. The kids were vaccinated but they still got it. Our GP failed to diagnose it, even after sending them to her multiple times. Eventually it was my mother-in-law who diagnosed it. The coughing was so bad I had bowls spread throughout the house, because they used to cough until they threw up :(

Thanks, yes I heard that chiros were a bit on the outer, but I understand there is at least one in Hobart that is 'approved'. Not going near anything vital though.

There is lots of variation in Chiro approach. I see one and there is nominal difference between his treatments and what I used to get from the Osteo in the same clinic.

Just avoid the ones who are anti vax, homeopathy works and full on manipulations.

Can I ask for some help from those people here with experience in this area - I think there a couple. There is a wealth of information on the web but it’s a bit overwhelming to understand when I don’t have the details from him.

Prostate cancer - and specifically what it means if the treatment was surgery. And what prognosis is normally post surgery?

I can give information, but where to start?

I had my prostate removed by robotic-assisted surgery in February 2018 after being diagnosed with low-grade, small-focus cancer 7 years prior. I went on what is called ‘active surveillance’ which was monitoring by 6-monthly PSA tests and 12-18 month biopsies with aim of intervening once there was a stage or extent progression.

Once it jumped a stage - after those 7 years - I was already pre-programmed to go to surgery. That period gave me a lot of time to obtain information and generally be prepared physically and psychologically.

In essence, I went by the evidence-based book and the outcome has been excellent. While not a medico, I am a biological scientist by profession, so I was pre-programmed for systematic evidence-based information and able to access original literature.

I’m very happy to open a PM conversation with you (or if you are asking for another person, with him - or make direct email or phone contact), as I have done with a couple of other members, to discuss the matter as fully as you would like.

I hope that is a helpful start.

Don’t panic is the operative phrase.

I know someone who was recently diagnosed the Prostate Cancer & instead of undergoing traditional surgery he opted to go with Cyberknife Radiation Therapy. May give you another option to investigate but it is expensive.

I'm getting exasperated.

My blood pressure has been going up. I've got three machines to measure it - and they all consistently say it's up at all times through the day, whenever I check it.
But every time I go to the Doctor, there's a long wait to see him, I nearly nod off, and then he measures it - and it always shows a pretty good result, pretty near the same as every other time he's measured it over the years.

This has happened three times in three weeks.
Yesterday, my Omron said 182/94 and I felt lousy. In the surgery an hour and a half later, his Omron said 140/78.
He asked me if there was some reason I can't relax at home?

Anyhow, I paid $110 for one of those all day blood pressure monitors.

Shall see who's Omron is right.
Cheers,
Renato

My cardiologist was able to fix that fluctuating blood pressure issue so work with your specialist. In my case he put me on half a tablet of a new medication and it solved the issue.

Renato you should have a 24 hour ambuatory BP test so your doctor can see what it is throughout the day.
basically mostly used for those whose BP is up at the surgery but not at home-white coat hypertension.
But there is a small group of people who have the opposite.Normal BP at the doctors but up at other times. This group does need treatment.
