Lol is this just the usual 'every 2 years' new airline talk that pops up but nothing ever comes of it?

In the vein of Catbert saying a cyclone is on the way, telling non-essential staff to leave and then sacking them for being non-essential, maybe this is VA's or QF's way of identifying staff for redundancy?

WIth B757s and B767s in mind I would be thinking that its more likely to be a freight operator rather than passenger airline? Or a joke, or a fishing expedition without much serious intent....

I would not be assuming any existing fleet by the potential operator. I expect they can obtain 757/767 readily and cheaply.

So this will result in 717/737/757/767/777/787 aircraft with Australian operators?

I believe the pair of QF Freight 747-8F wet leased from Atlas Air are still in the "fleet". Does that count for "Australian operators" to complete the straight?

You would be correct for passenger operations.
