Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Saw the '95Vintage at First Choice earlier today, $76ea in a case of 6.

It looks like it's probably an old listing, I would be surprised if any are available. Unless you saw it in-store, even then it's probably past it's time esp with retail store storage.

In 1995, the listed RRP was around $100. Take into account that was 26 years ago.

2007, from what I read said drink up to 2020. However, every critic says different.

Mount Langi Ghiran
Langi Shiraz 2007 $103
Normally new releases $170-199
I've found 1 bottle at my local on cellar release. Anyone ever tried any vintage?
That new RRP of $200 is a bit of a joke for the Langi shiraz. You could pick off old vintages of this wine for $60-70 every day at Langtons only a year ago. I wouldn't buy at $100, maybe at $80.

Seppelt St Peters is a better alternative at $55 on cellardoor. The Langi is probably slightly better but not materially.

Just picked up some decent bottles from my local BWS here in SA:

2 x Brown Brothers Patricia Shiraz @ $29 ea
2 x Cirillo 1850 Grenache @ $44 eac
1 x Hardys Thomas Hardy CS @ $65.60

All on clearance and not sure of vintage.

Available at plenty of stores, I would probably grab some if there was CB.
You probably should of added 1 bottle, and got an extra 10% off.

I literally never see good buys of late on Langton's, everything seems to hit the RRP.

Take into account, Langton's adds 16.5%+ buyer's fee + shipping. $80 is basically $96 plus shipping.
Btw, I'm searching Langton's and I can't find the Shiraz Langi sales history. Do you have a link?
I can see a few 89, 92 on auction but their well past their time I imagine.

I think $100, for a 15 year old Langi is good value(Especially a well rated year). I've seen the $55 St Peter's and passed on it personally.

I had a 2003 Langi a few weeks ago. Was still delish. I bought it for $55 ages ago.

The $80 was the all in price after buyers premium and generally 65-75. I bought some 2005’s from vinomofo a while back for about $55. My point is that it’s definitely not a $200 wine and pretty marginal at $100 when they’ve been flogging it cheaply the last 10 years.
Just because they double the RRP from one vintage to the next doesn’t make it a deal when it’s 50% off and back to the original RRP from 2 years ago.

I went back 5 years on the forum, cheapest with discounts I saw was $73-75 5 years ago, and $99.

Everyone jumped on Moss Wood 2012 here, but no one said a word about 2011 for $20 more. You could say certain vintages hold more value, or simply it's gone up in time.

$55 is a great price, I'm sure if they popped up everyone would jump on that. But, we can't really compare a deal years ago to what's available today.
I don't exactly know what you're trying to argue here. I'm not paying $199, I've paid $100 for a 15 year old wine I want to drink soon. I don't have a time machine, if so I'd happily buy it for $55.
Used cars are 20% more expensive, property has jumped 20% this year...I mean even aged wine goes up in value.

Just remember everyday at auction, or in store people pay over $150 for Basket Press and it's $75 as a member. You win some, you lose some.

Agree. I stoped buying Langi in 2012 after they doubled the price and managed to hold off until earlier this year when FC had the 2018 vintage around $90 after all discounts.

Mount Langi is just one example of quite a few $200 wines that don’t justify their price tag, not because they’re not good but for doubling RRP to maximise export profits. Good luck with that strategy now ;) No wonder we are seeing so many “half price” offers lately.

Interesting biz - 389s rrp has gone through the roof from $50 to $100 and that feels crazy. Then we see Langi quadrupling in same period. Sheesh.

Try one and let us know?

A lot of those reviewers will have paid $100-120 and there are some incredible wines available at that price. Even more so for savvy buyers like people on this forum. It's quite possible that at $100+ it doesn't stack up to the competition but at $60 it would be a different proposition
I only got one, so will sit on it for a while.

The Serafino 2013 Reserve Tempranillo cleanskins turned up today. Couldn't find much info on them online so it was a bit of a gamble but for $70 delivered, after opening one up I've gotta say I'm happy. They still have some of the shiraz and gts blend for $10/btl, sale finishes tomorrow.

Looks like 2013 is not available (to me anyway)
I don't remember if you're in Sydney but there should be around 3 dozen spread between Hunters Hill, Double Bay, Macquarie Park, Newtown & Forestville.

I can check other areas if anybody is interested.

The 2015 is widely available in store and online.
