Now signed up for the challenge... Great idea by AA... by doing this they are ensuring they will be my default airline for US travel...

Egggcellent. AA number all nicely in the booking too with all traces of QF number removed?

Seems to be but I will be checking the BP twice... Should be fun when I turn up to the QF J counter with an AA Flight number, QP card (to show eligibility to use said line) and AA FFP number :)

And the real amazing thing was that when calling the US number there was no computer at all... straight through to a person... rather shocking actually!

If check my trip shows no sign of the Qantas number looking at the Qantas reference, then should be fine :)

Have you received an email confirming enrollment into the challenge? If you don't receive one, give AA a call back on monday and check that it is showing as enroled; have seen cases where people are told that they are enrolled but weren't actually.

Do make sure that the check in agent and the Qantas Club agents do not try to add your number to the booking; they do have a tendency to try and do it if presented with a Qantas card so make sure to tell them not to add it to the booking

If all looks good then enjoy ya ill gotten candy :)

Back to the OT..
While I agree the T&C state that I should not have had access I asked the check in person and she looked at me confused "Of course you get access" and the lounge lady just let me straight through no questions asked... YMMV etc...

Oh and Chandon NV today... a very approachable bubbly!

Now to check out seat 80K on the a380 (to much luck this morning... hope I dont run out!)

See post #36 - there is some conflict in the T&C but "Qantas Service" covers it nicely.

(+ you have provided further anecdotal evidence confirming application.)

Further evidence was I was admitted into the OW lounge at LAX with no problems at all... once again YMMV

Oh and the lounge was absolutely packed to the rafters... I wish I could make OW Emerald and get into the FCL!

Mind you, from where I was seated there was a door connecting the two (via the kitchen) and it did not look that amazing (not like pictures I have seen from MEL QF FCL)

FCL at TBIT is nothing special. Moët is the bubbly, and the food is largely the same as the J lounge. When I was there a few weeks ago, it was packed to overflowing. I wandered down to have a shower, and the J lounge was less-packed than the F Lounge. The F Lounge attendant actually made a PA announcement telling people to remove bags from seats and place them on the floor to accommodate Pax. The lounge was over-flowing (And they opened up the little private room on the left as you walk in). It's not a pinch on the MEL and SYD Lounges (not that i've been there yet, but i've heard all about them :))

The question is: IS the OW lounge a AC lounge for the purposes of access? What about A/C members flying AA Y from TBIT?

yanks have a pathological love of Y class travel, ironic given they are the least race that would fit there comfortably

There are no AA operated flights departing from TBIT, only codeshares. I expect a non-status AC member would have access to the Qantas Business Class lounge if flying on an AA codeshare operated by Qantas out of TBIT. An AA Platinum member will have access by virtue of being OneWorld Sapphire.

And any AA Gold status member flying on an AA codeshare out of TBIT would be well advised to undertake the Platinum Challenge to attain Platinum status as I expect all AA codeshares departing TBIT are going to be long-haul flights sufficient to complete the challenge in most cases.
