Qantas Platinum One experiences?

The end of P1 coincided with my retirement from full time work. I've also missed the 3,000 or more SCs each year - if I'd kept going, I'd be that much closer to LTP. But the recent DSC promotions have been helping with that and for me LTP is now sort of realistically achievable.
Wow, LTP. That would be an achievement. How many lifetime SCs do you have now?

And with that, I hang up my white bag tag and hand back the white card. After 5 years as a P1, will I miss it? Slightly - mainly for the following reasons (in no particular order):
  • Partner platinum
  • Seat selection
  • VIP service team
  • Christmas gift
  • The DYKWIA factor
  • (Very) Occasional surprise and delight actions (op-up, CL invite, event invite)
Do I think that all the effort to reach / maintain P1 for the above benefits is worth it - absolutely not. I still get the key benefits I find most valuable from vanilla WP (lounge access and additional baggage) and can't say any of my recent (last 18-24 months) onboard experience has been any better being a P1.

So until next time....
When I handed in my white card resignation I was along the same lines. The additional thing that I miss was the ability for QF to release J rewards seats available as this was great value in our situation. We mainly travelled as a family unit of 3 and for 10 years it always seemed very easy to get 2 seats released for the start and end of school holidays and on the odd occasion 3. Also on seat release although rules are D&I only there was at least 1 (maybe 2) occasions that I had a seat released for myself only when there was only J available, IIRC @Princess Fiona may have experienced similar.

67,214. 7,786 to go. At current SC earn rate, about 5 years to go. With a little more DSC offer discipline and maybe even starting to do SC runs, I should be able to get that down to 4 years. Of course if QF does a BA, then I'm screwed.

I flew a LOT for work from about 2003 to 2018. At least twice a year on an AONEx (and from 2015 to 2018, I think I was doing up to 4 AONEx a year), plus lots of other QF flying. I think one year I hit WP on MEL-SYD (in J, admittedly) sectors alone. QF was a client of my firm so I was locked into the QF/oneworld ecosystem. 2019 to 2024 were lean SC earn years for me as I was living in Canada (a oneworld inconvenient destination) and there was of course the pandemic. I did achieve Super Elite with Air Canada in 2023-24 though!

To keep this on topic, I've also missed the release of F reward seats as a P1. That said, my last two J-F upgrades on SIN-LHRvv were as a lowly WP!

I am just wondering about the gift Platinum that is available for P1. I have seen it interpreted that you can give it to someone and then move it to someone else? ie give to my Son then later in the year change it over to my daughter. Does anyone know if this is possible? Odd question I know but as I can't talk to anyone in VIP centre I thought someone here may know the answer.

Yes, you can change your nominated Plat once per year. It's covered in the P1 FAQ:

The first time you nominate a family member or friend, you can do it any time during your Platinum One membership as long as you have more than one month remaining in your existing Platinum One Membership Year. If you earn the required Status Credits to retain your Platinum One tier for the following Membership Year, your nominated person’s Platinum status will automatically roll over unless you advise us before the start of your new Membership Year. If you want to change your nominated person, you'll need to let us know within the last two months of your existing Membership Year.
