Interline agreemnets of Virgin Australia

struggling to find info on airlines that interline with VA , interested in buying the new Hongkong airline flights from sydney to hk, but originated from Adelaide. I can book one ticket through Hongkong airlines, but will it check my bag through?

Interline agreements don't tend to be promoted.

If you buy the ticket on a single ticket the bag will be checked through.

An example is Delta. When you search from Adelaide to LAX you will get various options for the domestic booking : Virgin, Jetstar and Qantas and all will show with the operating airline code. These are all interline.

So if you are on the HongKong Airlines website and it shows Virgin Australia and a VA flight number for the domestic flight it's interline and your baggage will be checked through.

Some comparison sites slightly break this theory as they will provide separate tickets and you have to collect your bags and check in etc. Though they normally display a tag of this. Therefore it's much safer when you book directly with the airline as they will only sell code-share / interline tickets.

You can always use a travel agent to put multiple tickets on a single PNR, that will see your bags checked through in most cases as long as an IL agreement exists.

As above separate PNRs are a problem but usually separate tickets on a single PNR will work.

As a general note, it's worth highlighting that interline involves more than one agreement. There's eticket interline, paper ticket interline, and baggage interline. Just because there's an eticket interline doesn't necessarily mean there is a baggage interline, and vice versa. It's quite commonly the case, but not universal. Within that, some agreements can also be one-way, rather than reciprocal.

In this case though, VA and HX (Hong Kong Airlines) have reciprocal agreements on all three, so you'll be fine.
