Finnair’s Business Class AirLounge seat

Oh dear. Perhaps I should rethink my choice of seat...currently I have 1K.

What aircraft? The A350s and A330s don't have a K, as far as I know.

On the A350s, row 2 is the first row for the window seats (A and L - see pic above) and these have a roomier footwell (without the strut). On the A330, row 1 extends the full width.
 
Ah yes, I can see how that would be problematic. I'm currently in L (got my numbers muddled) so looks like I'm pretty safe from unsavory views at least.

Thanks, I made a mistake so I've corrected my post now. I'm in L. I was after the roomier footwell because I'm a side sleeper on both sides (and not petite).
 
I personally love these seats. My only criticism is that the 2 pillows provided are not enough. It needs 1 more pillow, then it'll be perfect.
 
I’ve flown in the seat now!

Apart from some very minor claustrophobia feelings when sleeping facing the aisle, I can report back that I’m a fan of this seat set up. It was great. I was worried it would be too firm when sleeping, it wasn’t, I was worried I would feel uncomfortable in “lounge mode” with insufficient support, I was fine. I love that the tray table moved multiple ways so that I could position it exactly where I wanted. The crew (Singapore crew do all SIN-HEL and HEL-SIN flights) were good natured, and generous. The INFE equipment was excellent - no pressing the FF button 50 times for it activate etc.

I had a solid 10.5-11 hours sleep on my 13.5hr flight. That was a combination of not sleeping much ex-MEL on a 23h30 flight, then being awake and wandering around Singapore during an 11.5hr layover, as well as the number of drinks I had in the lounge pre-departure! Winning combination in this case.

I look forward to see how my HEL-NRT flight is next month. A Japanese crew will be on that flight, I’m told.
 
Currently on board Ay99 Hel-Hkg about to takeoff so will have another 12 hours in this J seat...the only crticism is that you sit upright or lie completely flat...nothing in between ;)

Quite - I’ve to see a review of this Business Class seat by some looking to “conduct business” for a number of hours.

Flew SIN-HEL a couple of weeks ago and got to try the seat.

Managed to secure 9L which, as a bulkhead, had a fair bit of extra space in the footwell (for those without OWS and like me, reluctant to pay AY’s stupidly high seat selection fee which applies even after check-in, if your booking includes a QF leg, you can use Qantas’ MMB to change seats after checking-in). The overhead bin was used as storage for spare pillows, so there were a couple of disturbances but it wasn’t too bad.

I like the privacy of the seat - 9L was in its own row - and the sleeping surface was big and comfortable. I got 6.5 hours of sleep in which was unusually good for me.

Seating was okay. I couldn’t really recline as slumping leads to backaches so, as others have noted, it’s sit up, or lie down. Nothing in between.

Another downside was going to pee when in bed mode - it was awkward shimmying out of bed because of the mattress pad (which meant pushing the seat more upright to escape was not possible, unlike conventional seats).

All-up, I still think I prefer conventional seats although think this was fine. But I’ll try it again in a couple of weeks for the return HEL-SIN leg (assuming both it and MXP-HEL aren’t affected by pilots’ industrial action) before passing judgment.
 
I flew HKG-HEL last week and finally got to try the seat. Being a 9pm departure, I managed to get a solid 8-9 hours sleep.

I was in 2L and the bulkhead seat was fantastic for sleeping. Proximity to the bathroom was not noticeable. The only downside was the seatbelt in bed mode which was a little annoying due to the automatic retraction.

I also had the seat for a shorter leg afterwards, HEL-AMS and this was only a 2 hour flight so the seat was fine (and obviously much better than being on euro business flights).

My initial thoughts are that for a longer day flight however, I would prefer a traditional business seat, but for an overnight flight, I quite liked the bed. Maybe one day I will get to try it out on a 5+ hour day flight.
 
Did Singapore to Helsinki with Finnair this week, second time that way and have had one return, so three times in the Finnair business seat now. I think in sitting mode it is not quite as comfortable as some others. And for sleeping I think the cover for the seat s they give you is pretty small and moves around very easily. But they do give two pillows instead of one and I find that really helpful. Overall I've slept well with Finnair. Disappointed with the food this time though.

I did AY100 going the other way back in 2023 and found the seat not too bad.

I'm surprised that no one has really compared it to SQs A350 Long Haul / B777 / A380 business product, as that's also either sitting upright or laying down too / nothing in between.

If anything, the AY seat would be easier to switch positions as the SQ seat you have to flip the backrest down to enable lay flat mode.

I'll be trying SQs long haul business class product later in the year (only tried their regional A350 product and that was average).

And have now done 8L on the 30J A350 config on HEL-SIN.**

The footwell was noticably cramped compared to 9L, with the metal pole being something to bang the ankles on (ask me how I know!). It was consequently harder to get comfortable when sleeping. Once again, the hauling up from sleeping to sitting was not as easy as a powered seat.

However, it was still a comfy place to spend 13 hours.

(**A possible post-check in seat selection hack for those without status: I'd been originally assigned 4H, which was not ideal. I wanted a window seat and, in the absence of 2A and 2L, selected 8L being the one least likely to be disturbed. Basically, after checking in, I went back in the Amadeus check-in and put 8L in my cart. I then went back to the Finnair MMB seat selection where it was showing as 'pending'. I selected 'modify' and then 'choose free seats'. Rather than reverthis changed the status to 'confirmed'. I tried the same thing on my dad's booking and he and his partner were able to get a confirmed bulkhead economy seat the same way.)
 
I hope AY sort out any issues that they may have. From my perspectiv they are the best priced biz class and for that price, comfortable service on these seats especially ex BKK to just about anywhere in Europe via HEL which as an airport is also in my opinion, a pleasure to transit. In the past as One World BA Gold card holder emerald certainly it was the way to go but ofcourse now with the changes in that programme the price itself is a good director.

Sat in 2A Sin-HEL last night, plenty of legroom and got 7 hours of good sleep. Currently sitting in 1H on AY1671 to AGP , as meant to be Eurobiz on a A321, but AY upgraded the aircraft due to a backlog of passengers in Spain. The legroom/footwell in 1H is huge. We’re happy with the A330 upgrade and so is the FA happy , easier to work out off twin aisles ( not referring to the VA one😉). As an aside a great experience had in the SIN QR lounge
