I beleive there may be quite a few forum members in Italy in May. This article seems to summarise some of the planned disruptions
Italy Set for Major Travel Chaos This May as Air and Rail Strikes Set to Bring Disruptions Across Europe - Travel And Tour World
Got back from Rome 11 days ago, 5 days before the Pope died....Rome would have been a mess! Now a strike... :(

The train from Fulmicino airport to RomeTermini station was just unpleasant....the train terminal was a long walk, including outdoors, from our arrival terminal, buying tickets from the machine was problematic as it took 5 different cards to finnally get one to be accepted...then had to drag suitcase across cobblestone roads to hotel... €14 each for the 2 of us. Caught Uber (actually taxi) back to airport...door to door €55 ! Also didnt have to deal with pick pockets....2 attempts to pick pocket us in 5 trips on Rome Metro!

This year was always going to be very big numbers due to Jubilee 2025, but that would have been supersized now. Best not to waste an opportunity to cause mass chaos on a massive scale I suppose.
