Much more wary of tripadvisor hotel rankings now, far too much manipulation. You know those #1 hotels with the last five reviews all ***** ratings from someone with one or two posts. If bored and nothing better to do, ask me a question on the tripadvisor PNG forum. Not the no 1 travel destination judging by the number of posts!

Worldmate for keeping travel details in my phone and flight alerts etc. Not as impressed with the ipad version as the symbian one.

If anyone knows of a good itinerary generator for ipad (or symbian) I would love to know it

I must admit that I did a double take when I saw you post expertflyer. I thought I had already done so, but did not see "Flight Availability | Upgrades | Frequent Flyer Information" as E/F myself.

It was only when I went to quote my post that I saw it.

Hmmm ... I guess their page should be titled "ExpertFlyer - Flight Availability | Upgrades | Frequent Flyer Information"

Nine months on I am wondering how the use of web sites has changed.
I dropped Wotif.
I got very familiar with using SQ and QF points as the replacement of cash use to points only use for flying using Qantas and Singapore Airlines sites.
Argus has worked for US car hire that gets me the insurance included.
AAA is quite helpful for any bucket list driving holiday in the US so I am a member rather than use my affiliate RACWA 397 number off the back of that card.
Australian Expedia works because you get a fair price in Australian dollars for overseas bookings.
A lot changes so I am very interested in sites that are Indispensable for travelling so I dug up this old thread.

  Surprised it's only rated one mention so far - not entirely sure how I managed to stay organised while travelling without it!
• AFF: The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - The Australian Frequent Flyer
  Invaluable for travel ideas, airline and airport stuff .. and possibly one of the more entertaining time destroyers out there
• Tablet Hotels: Tablet Boutique Hotels - Hand-Picked Boutique & Luxury Hotels
  A curated list of quality hotels - not always the best price available, but has prevented me from making coughpy hotel decisions on a few occasions so it's always my first stop when trying to work out where to stay..
• Trip Advisor: Reviews of Hotels, Flights and Vacation Rentals - TripAdvisor
  Occasionally helpful for tracking down pricing or getting hotel ideas if Tablet Hotels doesn't turn anything up - though I've found that the quality of the hotel reviews is seriously lacking
• Best Flights: Cheap Flights At Best Flights-Online Travel Agents Australia
  Good for finding out about sale fares, but would never book with them..
• ITA Software Matrix: Matrix - Search
  Very very handy for getting airfare routing and pricing ideas
• Great Circle Mapper: Great Circle Mapper
  Useful for mileage calculations (and pretty maps)
• Expedia Australia: Travel: Cheap Flights, Hotels, Packages & Car Hire | Expedia.com.au
  Pretty decent pricing most of the time, plus being able to pay in AUD to save on the currency conversion fees

  Love the historical rates plus being able to add in bank fee percentages

  Handy for peering in to an Amadeus PNR - not a fan of the new version, so use the "Classic" version
• Virtually There: Virtually There - your travel plans pinpointed
  Also handy for peering in to Sabre PNRs - note that your e-mail address needs to be listed in the booking to be able to retrieve it, and AA PNRs are prevented from being displayed (even though they use Sabre)

Not including Airline and Hotel websites; they're a given.

That is an excellent re-start of this helpful thread notzac and I share your thoughts on trying not to get stuck with a sub standard hotel room.
Your new list is very helpful for travellers wanting to avoid mistakes.
