I flew LAX-AKL last year then transited to an AKL-MEL flight due to leave a few hours later. Both flights were QF, but on separate tickets, so I can't see that you should have any issues. It was off the plane from LAX, follow some signs to International transit and up an escalator. There was a standard international security check (including LAGS etc.), cannot recall if it was at the bottom or top of the escalator, then it was straight into the QP (where, incidentally, a security check of a different kind took place - two people checked under all the tables/chairs with those mirrors-on-a-stick, as well as cupboard and the like - the only time I've ever seen this happen).

Edit: I had my AKL-MEL BP issued at LAX - not sure what issues may occur with you having/not having an EK BP upon arrival - but if you're checked in online and have a BP I suppose that should be OK. I guess?

Never done that ... always went through immigration and emigration between the flights.

Aside from that, I've had no issues.

Thanks, I'll print my BP in MEL F lounge, so I'll see how I go...

So did you have to clear immigration? I'm doing the same thing in January (finishing a DONE4 that started in NZ).

Cheers,

Ben

No, just followed the signs to int transfers, went through a mini security check, thats it, then i was in the int terminal and just walked up to my departing gate

Technically yesterday I never left Australia as no record of me in NZ

Sorry Nick couldn't help myself 2L of JD for NZ$69 was too good to resist...

Sounds zachary the same as my experience. :) Thx for posting the outcome, I'm sure it'll be a good reference point for anyone contemplating doing the same in future.

Cpl of months ago, I flew SYD-AKL, walked down to transit security, upstairs to meet Serfty in the lounge for a beer, then off to Melbourne 45 mins later.

Simply did online check in beforehand.
