Hi docjames

I really appreciate your help, just a couple of things as have found conflicting info, are you able to feed the little one during take-off and landing? as have been told this helps with there ears but didnt think would be able to this.

Also we have selected 1D & 1F on Virgin 737-800 would this be the best side or 1A & 1C?

Cheers

We have done a lot of flying with our infant son who is 20 months old now, in PE and the new Business configuration plus economy. He is getting to the age where he needs his own seat or the extra room offered in J class suffices if we put him on our lap. The old PE configuration was good as you basically got the third seat for free.

You can feed them whenever you want, at the age of your child I would assume they would still be on milk so that is pretty easy to sort and feed during take of or landing.

I am pretty sure that you will not be able to select seats 1A & 1C as they are emergency exit, even with the new business configuration. It was like that on our flight a couple of weeks ago. We have usually selected 1D and 1F but I am now of the view that was not the best option as the last two times we did this I realised it is actually a pain having to get up and down to the bags about 10 times for an hour flight, probably more than that actually and the storage pockets on the wall in front are small. I think having a wall behind us in row 2 will be good for passengers behind (as he likes to stand up and play with people behind) and that being able to have bags on floor and big seat pocket storage will make row 2 the better option when travelling with a child, well we will find this out on our flights next weekend.

The best seats in business class, for a couple with an infant, are way down the back of economy!!!!!
So sayeth Jeremy Clarkson

Another tip - not sure if available on Virgin (we've not asked) but on QF we always ask for a couple of pillows - to put under your arm so you can rest it comfortably on the armrest while the child is asleep in your arms, otherwise the tension of holding gets pretty wearing.

It's a good tip and we do the same on QF but I can confirm that DJ doesn't have pillows. We asked for them just last weekend to make it a bit easier to feed our four week old.

Congratulations!! Did you get a little Bart to go with Maggie, or did you get a Lisa?

Bummer about the pillows. I wonder if they have blankets? A QF FA once told me they are fire retandant - or words to that effect - and that they must be carried irrespective of time/ duration etc of the flight. A rolled up blanket may be an option on DJ??

Thank you :). We got a Lisa, though I guess I have to shuffle those "homernyms" along now :). So there is now a serious gender imbalance in the household. I may as well just take up drinking full time in preparation for when the girls are older...

AFAIK no blankets either.

Hey docjames

Just want to say thanks for all your advice, we had no hassles at all and the Virgin staff where good. We actually had the business class cabin to ourselves to the little fellow was spoilt first flight and he gets row 1 and the entire J cabin to himself (and us of course). He loved flying and didnt make a sound on either flight just feed him during take off and landing and that worked a treat for his ears.

Anyway thanks again as it made it all the more enjoyable arriving at the airport knowing what to expect and not beeing stressed.

Thanks mate
