ahh, "the angry traveler" - this one makes me smile actually.
The number of times I've been delayed at some random airport, there's always someone bursting a blood vessel and ranting/being belligerent at airline staff. Apart from making things unpleasant for everyone around them, it's behavior that doesn't do themselves any favours either.
On one instance, a delayed flight in DFW (boarded, then got off again 1hr later, then 2 hrs later..) meant i was likely to miss my connecting Int flight from LAX. Since the flight was AA & the onward flight was CX, I doubted there was much they could do for me - but I was polite & open to any alternatives. In the end, they offered to put me up at the DFW Hilton & wrangle me onto another flight.
The guy on the help desk next to me who was yelling, red in the face & carrying on like a pork chop got the "sorry, there's nothing we can do for you".
A little bit of flexibility, calm and politeness goes along way when your travel plans go pear-shaped.
