Shophouse rooms are great @ the IC in SIN.. Certainly more charm than the standard IC fare.. Fantastic location in Bugis
Have had a few stays here.. always satisfied.. excluding cost issues

Can be noisey though!

Yeah the IC is nice at SIN. I might try conrad SIN next, or the RC. Can someone who have stayed at these properties give us a small comparison or feedback? :) I am HH Gold.

Haven't stayed at the Conrad but it looks old.

I've got a one night stay in two weeks & have been instructed by SWMBO to check out, Naumi - rooms & pool look pretty cool & hotel offers plenty for the $$.

But my fav's remain FS & MO.....however, since I'm using her points for the FASA I'm doing what I'm told:!:

A mini TR.

Not bad for the price - Wifi, B'fast included, pool - nice view, rooms -nice.

Looks nice.. Your rating out of 10?

I got upgraded so the room I paid $360++ would not have looked like this. However, I did look at the 2 bed suite and for families....it's perfect. Two screened bedrooms, two bathrooms.

Service, staff - 9
Breakfast - 7+......egg station, nice
Rooms - 8+
Pool size - 5 very small
Pool view - 7
Location - 8
Extras - 8+....Wifi, water, flat tv's, Ipod docks, nice furniture

Overall I'd say 7+ Worth another stay!

Thanks for review... Was looking at the IC or Hilton? For next visit.. Nice to try a different scene though.

I just left the IC. Loved it. It is a beautiful hotel, quite good location, very quiet and peaceful.

I'm at the Mandarin Oriental now and I am seriously underwhelmed. It feels and looks like a 70s era Sheraton. Plus the lobby is overrun with tourist groups and children - reminds me of the Le Meridien Chiang Mai. Think I will move and try the Ritz Carlton next door.

UPDATE: At the Ritz Carlton now. It is awesome and about 10x better than the MO.

Planning a 5 nights trip (leisure) to Singapore for end of August with my +1, and need some advise re hotels. Am a HHonors Gold (thanks to VA) and a PriorityClub Plat (part thanks to VA, was Gold anyway), so I am planning to split my nights between these 2 chains. The budget is an issue, so will book cheapest category and hope & pray for status upgrades. What I found so far:

Holiday Inn City Centre Orchard - looks surprisingly good for a HI, also great reviews (grain of salt added), and has a club lounge. Anyone stayed there before? Will probably book this for 2 nights and burn 50k points ($ rates are on par with the IC so it's not cheap).

Holiday Inn Atrium - stayed there before, very average and cough location, so not on the list.

InterContinental - read positive comments on here, but 2 concerns: I don't like the classic look and feel, prefer modern and stylish (love the Grand Hyatt Sin as a reference, but unfortunately not in my budget this time). Other concern is location, it's not Orchard Road nor Marina Bay, so simply not convinced.

Hilton vs. Conrad - the modern style of the Hilton suits me better, but the location of the Conrad on the bay is preferable. Costwise for the days I am looking at the Conrad is 15-20% more expensive then the Hilton. So it probably comes down to likelyhood of upgrades - any experiences?

So my preference at the moment is 2 nights (on points) at the HI City Centre Orchard, and then move on to either Hilton or Conrad for 3 more nights.

Happy to hear any thoughts.

Upgrades at Conrad will be more likely if the Pan Pac is re-opened. It has been very full lately due to the Pan Pac right next door being closed for renovations. Not stayed at the hilton or any of the other hotels, sorry.

Intercontinental may not be on Orchard or Marina, but it's right on top of Bugis Junction station. Have to change at city all to get to Orchard, but we love the convenience. Starbucks, Maccas (when jet lagged after LHR & depserate for Little Miss), and a decent small supermarket & foodcourt all downstairs, and some interesting food streets nearby for more authentic Singapore dining. But the only other place we've stayed was our first time in Singapore, and close to Chinatown.

I've stayed at a few SIN hotels:

HI Orchard, HI Atrium, Hilton Orchard, Conrad, IBIS Bencoolen, IBIS Novena, Novotel Clarke Quay ... maybe somewhere else too.

HI Orchard is definitely nice, and way better than HI Atrium. Didn't rate the Hilton - felt staff were pushy. Conrad was very nice (but I hate paying the price they ask for!).
I don't think you'll get Lounge access at HI Orchard unless you book the right room type (certainly haven't been offered access).

Thanks for the helpful infos so far, I'll do a bit more research tomorrow then.

+1 doesn't like the classic look and feel of the IC (as I have expected), Starbucks nextdoor is a plus though. :D And the Conrad just breaks the bank compared to the others.

I'm not usually a big fan of 'classic' look and feel hotels... like you I much prefer modern hotels. But I really love the Intercontinental Singapore because they have kept the old world charm but at the same time done a great job of making the important things modern.

Also the location of the Intercontinental is very close to Marina Bay area - I've walked between the two a couple of times (fairly late at night). Maybe a 10-15 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi. IMHO the Intercontinental is a much better and more fun location than Orchard Road. And you can walk to Chimes for some great restaurants.

I remember finding it hard to find good reviews on the IC Singapore from frequent travellers (ignoring TripAdvisor)... most of the stuff on the long thread on Flyertalk is IC Royal Ambassadors complaining that they didn't get an upgrade to the Presidential Suite, a helicopter transfer from the airport, and an army of slaves to alphabetise their sock collections on their award stays...

Hilton vs. Conrad - the modern style of the Hilton suits me better, but the location of the Conrad on the bay is preferable. Costwise for the days I am looking at the Conrad is 15-20% more expensive then the Hilton. So it probably comes down to likelyhood of upgrades - any experiences?

I'm staying at the Conrad on Saturday night so will report back. The Conrad looks a bit dated in the photos but I've always had good experiences even in the older Conrads e.g. BKK.

Re: possibility of upgrades, do you have the HH Diamond status through your VA Plat status? I have heard that the Conrad is pretty good with Diamond treatment but will confirm on the weekend

No, I am only HH Gold. Opted for PC Platinum when I became VA Plat simply because HI and CP is where I usually stay. Haven't had a HH stay for a looooong time, Hilton Belfast in 2007 IIRC.
