What does IIRC mean?

What did I say about acronyms for acronyms sake. I have also seen TP used.

Not always.

So we don't have to worry about character limits on AFF? Just as well text speak has not found it's way to AFF. It is so difficult to read.
Be careful here.

AFF is an acronym :!: :lol:

And very relevant on this website.

Now you wouldn't refer to Australian Frequent Flyer as AFF on the AdultFriendFinder website would you? ;) :p Not that I have a need to visit AdultFriend Finder mind you.

But you seem familiar with it..;)

I personally don't know what it is. Of course.

Kthnxbai!

Amd, OT, as we used to say in the Army, "TLAs mate!"

Thanks to all the advertising. From memory it was even advertised on AFF when I used to see all the ads before Gold membership. ;)

Luckily the thread seems to have moved on from acronyms to txt speak. :p :lol:

No idea what that is supposed to mean.

TLA = Three Letter Acronym / Abbreviation (the latter being more precise). Funny enough, it is not a completely made-up or BS turn of phrase, or at least as Wikipedia would have you to believe.

A more esoteric abbreviation that only some of us on AFF know (including at least two of our esteemed moderators) is WYBMADIITY. Luckily, such an abbreviation has little practical use.

Other abbreviations have different purposes other than simply to be a bit economical. One of them is SWMBO :D (and for the fairer half, either HWMBO (unfortunately rare ;)) or DH).

Luckily from the context of the use of YMMV in previous posts, it would seem unlikely that any of the posters who used it were cursing others with a weird, gaudy, root vegetable-borne disease of the lighter kind. Then, the other three interpretations are mildly equivalent (in mood at least if not meaning).

The most confusing abbreviation that I think that is not easily discerned on AFF (and I'm guilty of this too) is OT. That is, it can mean both "on topic" and "off topic".

Just as well there are only 2 meanings on AFF.

And then just to name a few more to add more confusion

You forgot 'over there' famous quote from Norman Gunston. He used it instead of OS.

And JTBP (just to be pedantic :)), most of those listed above are not acronyms. :p;)

Correct: to be an acronym, it has to be pronounceable -- like Qantas. Otherwise it's an initialisation -- like BA.

One for IT nerd humour:

GNU = GNU's Not Unix

...and the more reserved sounding...

KDE = KDE Desktop Environment
