Hi there,

Apologies if this has been asked a thousand times before but have a quick question about SC / FF Point earn on a flight when failing to board the second leg of a multi leg trip.

That is, I have a return journey booking Mel -> xSing -> LHR and because I don't need to get back to LHR, I plan on getting off at Singapore, and making another separate Sing -> Delhi return booking and subsequently flying back to Melbourne separately (possibly on another return ticket). As such, I won't make the Sing -> LHR leg of this journey and I will be with carry on luggage only.

If I do this will I still get SC / FF earn on the full Mel -> xSing -> LHR trip, or only on Mel -> Sing?

Also, what is the best way of letting Qantas know that I won't be boarding in Singapore for the London leg? On check in at Melbourne or before hand? I obviously want to avoid having to pay a change fee, and Qantas have explained I won't be eligible for a credit on on the Sin-> LHR leg as the flight was purchased through a travel agent in the UK.

Thanks, any thoughts appreciated.

cheers,
Dave

You'll only receive points for the legs actually flown.

So you have a booking MEL-SIN-LHR-SIN-MEL and you intend to fly only MEL-SIN and then fail to board SIN-LHR? That will also cancel your LHR-SIN and SIN-MEL legs.

The OP said he would be booking a SIN-MEL ticket later.. I'm actually not sure how you will earn as it is ticketed through to LHR not SIN (it's only a transit). in theory you should earn MEL-SIN only

Thanks very much.

I've actually already flown the first journey LHR -> xSING -> MEL , and it's now the return leg I'm planning on stopping after MEL -> SING, then need to get back to Aus on either a one way or return fare.

I would leave it as late as possible before you tell them. If your ticket is MEL-LHR then they will only issue one boarding pass through to LHR so you will need to tell them at the airport. You can be cheeky and not reboard in SIN but that may get you in trouble with local authorities.

Hopefully you won't have a problem with additional payments as in theory they could charge you more as you did not fully utilise the return ticket you purchased.

Actually I reckon the best thing to do would be to leave the plane in SIN and go to the transfer desk and tell them you've received news that prevents you from continuing your journey. They may want your BP so have a copy of this before going to the desk. Once they know you're not continuing leave the airport.

Because you don't have checked luggage they can just remove you from the manifest.

One way to ensure you have a different BP for the second leg is to choose a different seat if possible.

Is the booking LHR-MEL-LHR or LHRxSIN-MEL-xSIN-LHR?

i.e. Are you booked, say QF9 MEL-LHR and simply want to get of at Singapore?

Yep it's a QF9.
Presumably all the way.

Does your ticket state QF9 MEL-LHR?

If so, then it's nothing to do with your ticket being booked in the UK - abandon yon flight in SIN and it's quite possible you won't see a QFF point at all out of MEL.

Ahha thanks. Yes it's qf9 booked as mel -> lhr .

I can't believe I will have to pay a change fee to get off half way freeing up an extra seat which can then be onsold.

Oh well, may as well just look at options out of LHR as well as I can't push the date back on the booking any further.

If you want to be sure of earning FF points for MEL-SIN, let alone SIN-LHR (or anywhere else) you would need to properly change the booking.

FWIW, if your Booking had been say MEL-SIN or QF9 and SIN-LHR on QF1 then the answers may have been different.
