Hi
I wanted to travel on Qantas from London to Glasgow
on the 26th December unfortunately the only seats available at Qantas.com.au were business class.

I rang BA to find out why if there was no business class seats available on BA.com why I could book on Qantas ,the answer was we only have one class on that route economy , I would tak to Qantas if I were you.I then asked what my business class booking entitled me to of both Qantas and BA and suffice to say the answers differed greatly with BA saying increased baggage and no lounge access, because the booking
would be treated as a refundable ticket,Qantas suggested lounge access as well as preferred up front seating

What a one world rip off there are 5 days in January where you can only book business class as there are no economy seats between London and Glasgow .

Could always just purchase a ticket. I don't know your travel dates, but BA has this....

BA.jpg

Or go Easyjet as it's a short flight.....

Just so I understand , you feel it is OK for Qantas to sell tickets on BA (admittedly using points) that BA claim dont exist.

And you dont feel oneworld should stop this

ah well another case of a ripoff and there is a large difference in flying gatwick to glasgow forgetting BA versus easyjet .as well as my travel date is 26/12 and 5/1

at the time of booking on the flights that suited me

The BIG rip off is if BA say that on their service between Glasgow and London they only have economy seats available , on a BA aircraft how can qantas say they are sold out in economy see below re 26/12

YES I could use Easyjet but why should Qantas sell tickets that dont exist

thx

One could doubt that using Qantas points to book a flight on BA London to Glasgow would be a wise use of points. It would seem that from time to time there are anomalies between the two booking engines, especially at peak periods such as 26 December or early January. As the previous poster suggests why not just book a cash flight on BA. Flights are available on 26 December from 62 pounds.

Reason is pretty simple actually, though a bit strange to the end customer. In the GDS BA have loaded business class booking classes as available ie JCRIU which is what the QF booking engine is taking as being available on these flights, as long as BA does not take these booking classes out of the GDS they will appear on the QF award search. They will not show up for revenue tickets as there are no Business fares loaded. Hope this explains it a bit

1) I don't feel anything in a case like this. It would be like trying to use BA points to book something on QF (Sydney to Newcastle).
2) Why leave such a booking, at a busy time of the year, so late?

I have had a similar discussion elsewhere on this topic previously. We are flying J from SYD-LHR-NCL on the 27th December and the BA1326 leg of the journey booked through Qantas states travel class J. I am well aware that the BA A320 does not have J class but this does not really bother me since the LHR-NCL legs are almost free once added to the SYD-LHR flight. I am happy with Galleries access in T5 to freshen up which makes the short flight a breeze (more time spent moving on the ground at LHR than in the air). And if BA do what they did last time and serve me my favourite Fox Chocolate Viennese Melt biscuit (simple things) then I will feel like I am in F again!

However, back to the original statement, if Qantas are trying to take points from you for a J fare rather than a Y then that is a bit cheeky. I agree with what ric_melb says and that this is not the best use of FF points when looking at the actual cost of the flights in question.

i am sorry why exactly should qantas sell tickets to there valued frequent flyers that dont exist

j

THX but why should Qantas sell tickets that dont exist to qffs when BA operate the aircraft and BA dont sell them ONEWORLD ????

Thx yes it does but why should I be charged mor points for the same seat. As well as if the system is wrong three questions
A) why does BA refer you to Qantas
B) why does Qants refer you to BA
C) If it cant be fixed how many QFF points are being wasted bu frequent flers

Notso happy

And the reason Qantas sell the same seat in business if economy isnt available is ?

AND THE reason qantas have seats in business class and none in economy is ?

Ah well another reward from qantas for being a loyal customer,

In terms of short notice had to wait for work reasons , but i feel to see the relevance as Qantas are selling Business class seats and economy is unavailable on the same flight business class dont exist?

Suggest you refer to Post No. 5 for the reason then decide on another way to use the points that are burning a hole in your pocket. Maybe call BA with the detail from this post and see if you can help BA solve the problem.

First it is poor form to post multiple posts that say exactly the same thing. We only need it once.

Second, as explained the BA load the business fare classes in the GDS. That tells the qantas booking engine that there is business available. Qantas is selling what BA tells them is available. You might not like it but that is the fact.

Third most people here believe that flight is a complete waste of points and will only pay cash for it. As such you're raising a non-issue because it will never be a problem. Answer: use cash.

Reason is pretty simple actually, though a bit strange to the end customer. Question though! Would a booking actually confirm, or would an error come back?

FWIW, BA do load J booking clases onto these flights, generally to cater for connectioning premium class travel - it is quite possible to travel in U (award), J (Full) Business, etc. class fare buckets on these flights.

With that one gets Business class baggage allowance, Galleries club access before the flight and priority boarding. (You still get a economy seating/service however.)

This is not correct. You do not access to the galleries lounge at terminal 5, I know this from experience, you only have a BA economy boarding pass.

thx

If booked into J or U class you do get access - in spite of what a lounge dragon may say - ask them to check the booking fare bucket if challenged.

Thanks for your insight.
So qantas can sell tickets in a class to their frequent flyers ,that BA dont to their frequent flyers and because "most people believe it is a waste of points......" I should accept it ?
just so you know the cost of an economy ticket is 175£ as opposed to what should be 10k points not bad usage from my point of veiw.
As well as that your suggestion that it is a BA issue is wrong ,i am using my qantas points BA dont ripoff their frequent flyers in this way .

Nothappy

i can only talk from experience , and have spoken to Qantas frequent flyer serrvice centre who have told me i am not entitled as the boarding pass states economy
I have asked on 22/9 at Heathrow and they rang the qantas rep from the T5 lounge and i was denied access , but i did wait for 20 minutes while they tried to sort it out a complete waste

I have made some queries as to what should have happened - perhaps things have changed. I'll get back when I have a response.

Other than that, given what indeed happened, I suggest you provided a concise letter of complaint to QFF indicating you paid 18,000 QFF points and £40 only to receive 10,000 points and £40 of service as well as angst due to contradictory/vague information.
