Hi

I am booking a SYD-SIN flight on Qantas arriving at 16.00.

I want to fly onto Bangkok. There is a Jetstar Asia flight at 19.00 that I would like to catch but i'm worried that wont be enough time to get off the plane, collect luggage and re-check in. Also, factoring in any lateness.

There is another Air Asia flight I can catch at 10pm but it would be so great not to have to wait so long and get into BKK at a reasonable time.

Thanks!

AFAIK qantas will check through to JQ Asia flights to BKK so no need to go out and get your bags.

Either way 3 hours is plenty.

I have done those transits quite a few times.. theoretically 3 hours should be ample sufficient time for transit from QF arrival in SIN -> 3K513 1910 Departure. SIN/BKK
Cheers,

So they will check through even if i book separately? I thought it was only if it was booked together. That would be great if it could be checked all the way through.

When they made the changes about baggage interlining in 2010 they produced this document:

http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/ReadytoFlyFAQ191010.pdf

This document says irrespective of different PNR's they WILL interline QF International to 3K in SIN, BKK and HKG. (question 11 refers).

Now I have not tried this lately so I don't know whether this is still in place . Somebody else may have the answer

Thanks so much for providing that. I think i'll go with the Jetstar flight as it looks like they'll interlineand even if they don't hopefully 3 hours will be enough.

Even if they don't Changi is an efficient airport, I would feel very comfortable with this connection.

I bet somebody will have done this very recently and can tell us if QF have done the interline for them.

I flew PER-xSIN-KUL in March, QF then 3K and they wouldn't through-check. I didn't push the agent though I must admit.

damn, well maybe they have amended the policy since then. pity, the aircraft say 'a Qantas group airline'

Here's a conservative scenario:
- QF flight 60 mins late .... arr 17:00
- 45 mins to clear immig and collect bag ... 17:45 (more likely to be <30 mins)
- Walk upstairs to 3K checkin .. 5 mins ... 17:50

Check in closes 40 mins before depature for 3K, ie. 1820. Given this, even if flight is 90mins late, still should be OK.

Thanks for your help everyone. I went with the Jetstar Asia flight. Looks like they probably wont check through based on everyones experience but I think 3 hours will give us enough time to make the connection.

Hmm I am flying PER-SIN-HKT ret in August The SIN-HKT leg is QF share code QF4218, whilst the return leg is a JQ flight 3K534. Speaking with the Qantas team, they stated that baggage for the first leg would be checked through, but they could not guarantee the same on the return leg. All flights booked through Qantas website, you think they could have used the code share for the return leg. Never had much luck in Asian countries getting them to go away from the manuals:)
Will be interesting to see if Qantas team are correct re the first leg or whether experienced AFF members know more??? lol

if it is on the same ticket they will check through. thats clear on the jetstar site: Flight Connections | Jetstar

If your bags are not through checked go to the transfer desk, there is a good chance they will take the details and process your checkin without the need to pass immigration. This also applies with HLO and Web checkin, they are more than happy to check your passport etc and print a real boarding pass, they are located near C1 practically beneath the EK lounge location.

Thanks markis...have taken note and thanks Ausie-Flyer

Would be surprised if they don't interlink QF to 3K.

I flew EK433 back in March and they checked my bag through on 3K in BNE right through to Ningbo.

The main issue I was presented when checking it through was confirmation that I had pre-purchased checked baggage with 3K. Once that was presented, all was fine. I guess it helped a little that I was flying in J with EK.

So just an update. Flew on Tuesday the 18th, unfortunately was advised at checkin they would not interline. I used all my persuasion skills to no avail. QF81 was 45 minutes late into changi, so we were a little worried. That worry was completely unnecessary. We were at the jetstar counter for checkin at 17.25, only 40 minutes after landing. Thanks to everyone for their advice it was spot on. Now just have to do it all again on the way home in 3 weeks!

interesting considering they put out that agents advice saying they specifically would do the baggage interline. I find it farcical that they will happily interline to a oneworld carrier on a separate ticket but not to their own subsidiary!!!!!

In effect what Qantas is telling me is to book Malaysia Airlines onward from Singapore because we will send your baggage along too but if you buy a ticket with a Qantas group carrier you can get stuffed, go get your own bag thanks.

Can REDROO make some enquiries as to why this document issued by Qantas: http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/ReadytoFlyFAQ191010.pdf no longer applies

Hi

We will be travelling Melbourne to Singapore to coughet in September and seek clarification as to whether we can through check our baggage to coughet. We are flying QF to Sin then 3K.

Thank you in advance
