Everyone is welcome....

Despite the fact I’ll likely be hungover tomorrow… and that I’ll no doubt drink copious amounts between now and then… looking forward to it.

I hope you are not still drinking tonight!

All those jugs you guys polished off earlier has left me a little worse for wear. :(

I’m drinking water, and I hope you are too!
I have not had anythinng to drink since drinks earlier and certainly not alcohol.

If I stay alcohol free until Boxing Day then this is 100 days of no alcohol. Very significant achievement for me. I would like to be able to have a social drink occasionally but I am afraid I could be one those people that should not drink at all.

If so you’d be at AA.

Social drinks are good, problem is many times we just get carried away and a social drink turns into a binge… or a habit.

I know it may sound cheeky and arrogant but I do not need AA. Just like I did not need quit smoking group sessions. It is no problem to go without cold turkey and I feel pride in being able to achieve it on my own without someone elses help.

Nothing wrong with getting carried away as long as one knows the rules. Do not let drinking take control.

You will have to put me on the Possible/Interested list as I am flying back from Bali on Strategic Airlines and I get back into Brisbane at 6:55pm, 19 January 2011.

So I could save the taxi fare and catch a train into the city for a drink and dinner before heading home.

If the flight is delayed then I will probably miss the airtrain connection and I would probably head straight home.

Would love to be there, but I will be freezing my butt of in Kongsberg, Norway. But at least the skiing will be good :) Better than the 44 hour (door to door) trip home the following weekend! Now, who's idea was it to have the farewell to anytime access jaunt the weekend after :P ?

I have cleared my diary and looking forward to meeting you guys.

Will be good to meet another BNE based AFF'er!

As samh004 says, the drinks tend to kick off about 5:30pm, although the "regulars" turn up between 5:30 and about 6:30 depending on work commitments etc. There's no agenda, and no obligation for anyone to stick around - come and go as you please.

There is usually an AFF bagtag sitting on the table where we meet - If Summer and not raining, it tends to be out the front of the hotel, if raining - or threatening to rain, then it tends to be the tables near the door to the covered deck along the side of the hotel.

I've been wanting to come along for a while, so count me in for the 19th.

I am not coming (to the drinks) as I will be in Darwin that week, which seems to be the case for every drinks night for the last 6 months . One day....

Usually drinks are around the middle of the month, 3rd week or so, but do fluctuate a bit sometimes. Are you always in DRW around the same time?

For the next 6 months - yes, a week in the middle of the month or CNS/TSV.

What's parking like nearby? I finish work at 430 near the airport.

Do I get changed and drive to the drinks and sip juice?

Go home to Eatons Hill then go to the gathering?

Grab a ride to work with a colleague then use public transport to get there? Then ring Mr Karens to pick me up?

I know I'm planning early. I should go explore more of Brisbane.

The only time I’ve ever driven to drinks was when there was a lot of rain in the area and I thought rail services may be cut (so drove through the rain and floods on the motorway instead.

Parking is available up and down the street out the front, though can sometimes be busy, other times pretty vacant. I can’t recall using a meter. I think there’s also a car park next door, but not sure if it’s public use.

Other than the slightly prohibitive cost, from the airport a ticket on the Air Train to Central and a walk up the hill might be the best idea.

Also nothing wrong with having juice, or a couple and then juice. Not everyone that turns up feels the need to drink alcohol!
