On a flight the other day I saw someone (in DEN) at the TSA checkpoint with a *full sized* hard shell suitcase. The TSA queried it and the guy said "It has my daughters wedding dress in it, she's getting married in Vegas!" and then started to say that the crew will store it in the cabin so it doesn't get knocked around.

Clearly he thinks gate checked luggage gets special treatement. It's treated harsher than regular bags IME.

I must admit thats a peeve of mine too. WTF? you can buy them at any 711 or a choice of thousands of servos, so why do you need to take them on a bloody aeroplane? Bit different 10 years ago when they were hard to get (I still never took them)

We have KKD in the 711 below us when we are in MEL....nowhere near as good as a a freshly produced one in California...you only go there when the light is flashing.

Carry on in the US is totally crazy. You have to get on early to avoid losing your overhead bin space ever since they started charging $25 to check a bag.

Easy to fix - have enforced $25 charges per ítem of hand luggage too.

At least with the store in ADL it means I don't have to buy and carry the bl%%dy things when I head back there to visit family.

IN the SIN boarding lounge for our EK flight to BNE we saw a tourist coming-in bringing a nice pack of KK for his guests. He was carrying it as hand luggage.

It could be that he was going to enjoy them on the 7hr 50 min flight or it could be that he was going to be donating them to the quarantine bins at BNE upon arrival.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let them in, would they?

This was at San Juan in November 2011 prior to boarding our flight to Santo Domingo which was operated by AA on an ATR42 - so not a snowball's chance is hell that 'carry on' was going to fit in the overhead locker of a turbo-prop.

Talking of Krispy Kremes the shop adjacent to our boarding gate was Cinabon & yes we were guilty of making a purchase but we took the low calorie option ie didn't opt for the extra frosting.



As we departed from a stand-off bay passengers dropped their carry on items (ie checked baggage you don't want to pay for) onto the barrow or on the tarmac to be loaded alongside the checked baggage in the hold.



Once we arrived in Santo Domingo we grabbed our carry on off the barrow which is the standoff equivalent of having your carryon brought up into the aerobridge on arrival if it was either too big for the cabin or they'd run out of room to stow it so it had to go underneath. We then made our way into the terminal to clear customs and collect our checked baggage off the carousel.

In that situation, they need to offload the ****. Send it on the next flight, and make them pay freight rates. Its obvious by those photos that these people have found a way to bypass the fees, and get stuff for free. No different to some of us with mistake fares/routings I guess, but annoying all the same

There was once when I checked in (I think it was LAX), the agent said to me "thank you for noticing that the luggage won't fit into the overhead lockers". I thought she was joking but she said that they really did have people taking something of a similar size onboard - or at least attempted anyway.

I brought bagels back from the US - the quarantine people just asked if there was any lettuce in them and let them through.

Seriously - I ticked "food" on the form, told them what I had, and when they asked about the lettuce, pulled the bag out to show them they were just ordinary unfilled bread bagels, but they weren't interested and told me to go through. I had thought they'd probably want to ditch them, and only brought them back because they were very yummy gluten free bagels (I haven't found better ones here). It was only one pack that I'd bought for brekky while I was there and hadn't used, so I wouldn't have been *too* upset if they had to be thrown out.

Glad you didn't do you dough and were able to bring the bagels in.
