On a recent flight SYD-LAX my S-I-L had a J seat which had a carried forward u/s IFE.

She was offered up to $100 of her own choice purchases from the inflight duty free and a bottle of champers on deplaning.

Fortunately the flight was overnight and she didn't miss the IFE.

For the interest of anyone else seeking compensation. I think in this case, she didn't go out of her way to 'seek' compensation but was proactively offered.

Couple of years ago, the whole IFE was not working on A330-300 service from HKG-PER.

No compensation was offerring on board. Several weeks later received a voucher from QFF for $200 and a letter of apology.

Luckily this was is an overnight flight so did not miss much.

I was struck by the "quiteness" during the flight because people were either reading or sleeping - no laughter associated with comedies on the IFE.

Please to learn QF staff have become more proactive onboard.

LAX-BNE Y total IFE failure = $300 voucher
SFO-SYD Y AVOD inop, reverted to loop system = $150 or 200 (can't remember)

I would also sent feedback to QF and more than likely receive a voucher as compensation for u/s IFE.

Checking in for PER-NRT we were told IFE would not be working on the flight, and given $30 to spend at Newslink.

Given it was an overnight flight anyway, I stocked up on some reading material to be used on the Shinkansen once I landed in Japan

PER-BNE and SYD-PER, last year IFE was down. $200 voucher for each flight in the mail a few weeks later, to my surprise, well done QF!!!
One was down before flight even started and the other went down not long after take off.
My father also recieved a voucher last year (BNE-PER) because IFE was not working.
I used both my vouchers at once ($400 total) for my PER-TXL (QF and BA metal) flight later that year, which worked out great for me. Had to book over phone to use the vouchers though.

Late last year flying MEL-LAX in First had a small glitch in my IFE which was fixed in 2 min so no real complaint.

However two weeks later received a $900 gift card from QF and apology. I was extremely surprised but very happy.:)

Did they charge extra for you to use the vouchers by booking on the phone? I've heard if you complain a bit and say there is no option to enter online they waive the fee?

I've never had to 'pay' to use vouchers.

Geez no wonder Jetstar reckon the iPad will kill the need for IFE,that could save the QF group some money in not having to pay compensation when it doesn't work.

You should not have pay a booking fee for using vouchers issued as compensation but I have found that Qantas Holidays (or Qantas Store?) does not always have access to the cheapest red e-deals you can see on the QF website.

Experienced kind of the same in July last year. I was flying LAX-SYD in J, on the 380. IFE was down for a while, and the massage function was completely off after a few re-start attempts (gargh). The CSM gave me a $100 voucher (together with a nice private note).

Then the IFE system was up and running again but no use due to zzzzz time.
