The BYO Wine Restaurant Thread

Way overtime to reboot and please forgive me for repetition but we finally had our 2017 company XMAS party at the Olive Tree last sat nt May 26.
I had intended to have the Wagyu scotch so wandered out to kitchen to see owner / chef Emelio and he told me scotch was perfect but he also had Wagyu eye fillet - which I went with - 400g for $44.00 incl vegetables on plate - no need to order sides at Olive Tree - BEST bit of steak I have EVER had in my life - PERFECTLY cooked and cut like butter. A 400g eye fillet can only be cut from an aged animal - so this steer was definitely 2yrs+ which will always yield a more flavoursome cut than a yearling or sub 2yr beast. Washed down with BYO Odyssey, Octavius and Shadrach it was a meal for the ages.

Good to hear it was so good @Cruiser Elite

It has been a few weeks since my last OT visit, so must go soon.

Another Melbourne recommendation. We are regulars at this Italian restaurant on an unassuming corner of Nicholson Street. I would go here regardless, but BYO (with really good care - decanters, glassware etc) is the icing on the cake.

Scopri is excellent. Genuine hospitality and great food.

Hard not to like Scopri, we did the feed us degustation (not sure if that really was the name but it was what we got). We got the recommendation off TripAdvisor where it was (and still is 2 years later) #1. Don't always agree with TA recommendations due the (over) influence of a) Americans and b) backpackers who don't necessarily have the same fine dining tastes as me, but Scopri is not in a touristy part of town so tends to attract a different clientele (mainly locals) and indeed most reviews are Australian based. And also love the fact they are BYO.

Andly Private Kitchen (Home) in Perth. Degustation only and must book at least 24 hours in advance, selecting how much you wish to spend. Meal is made up of what's available at market on the day. All round amazing. Excellent stemware too.

Estia,Henley beach Adelaide,
greek food by the sea and $15 corkage.
Stella restaurant, Henley beach $15
Africola CBD $20
Bistro Blackwood . CBD $40!
Melt pizzeria Hyde Park and CBD, $15
River cafe river Torrens $25 (free on Monday nights for a bottle 10+ years old)
Parlemento CBD $15
Parwana, near south road Thebarton. Amazing afghan food and a must, I even converted my dad, a snitzel / steak and three Veg man and he raves about it. He always says “ I never thought I’d eat afghan food” every bloody single time we go there!
They don’t serve alcohol so it’s $10 BYO and food is 10/10

A new one on my list for the Melburnians. Ryne in North Fitzroy has just gone BYO, though a $20 corkage - glassware is very good though.

It's been open a year, but went BYO for its first birthday - the chef is Donovan Cooke, ex-Est Est Est and Ondine.

Has pre-xmas lunch with extras there on Sunday and it was magnificent, especially with our own wine.

Thanks for the reminder - it also accepts the Good Food Gift Card :)

The Recreation nearby is $20 corkage as well (but doesn't accept the GFGC)

One of my favourite/regular places is Taxi Kitchen, where I've had Christmas Day lunch for the past two years - not only is it $20 corkage too, but also accepts GFGC, Entertainment Card, and Dimmi/TheFork vouchers :)

For quality and value off their wine list, besides 2016 Dirty Three pinot noir, consider 2015 Lightfoot & Sons Home Block chardonnay

This other Melbourne BYO restaurant list was previously posted a few years ago but is perhaps surprisingly still somewhat relevant

Is Taxi BYO?

WOW - never realised. I've dined there well into the dozens of times. Quality list, but not exactly cheap cheap.

Went to Ryne for the first time yesterday to celebrate Chinese New Year and my mum's birthday - absolutely fantastic, highly recommended, better than Taxi Kitchen in every way - food/service/space/seating - Sunday lunch is 4 courses for $68 with sizeable servings, amazing value - could definitely be/come my new favourite - thank you @Mr_Gimlet :)
