Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I see the AKL-TSV JASA is 3 sectors. Anyone seen or know of 3 sector domestic JASA's? Specifically PER-TSV?? I like to earn more than 280SC for 72,000 + $280 ish.

Does it have to be TSV? You can do PER-SYD/MEL-CNS return for 72K + <$300 = 320 SCs.

I've also furrowed my brow over:

PER-MEL-ADL-ASP-SYD-MEL-PER for 72K + ~$720 = 380 SCs

PER-MEL-SYD-AYQ-SYD-MEL-PER for 72K + ~$770 = 400 SCs

I know it flys in the face of a mileage run, but I have a reason to goto TSV. I've looked at PER-MEL/SYD-BNE-TSV, but all are stupidly priced :(

A reason? Now, there's a shocking admission! ;)

Have you considered starting from a regional port? The $ (and the red-eyes) might kill it for you, but a couple of examples from a quick and dirty search:

KGI-PER-BNE-TSV for 36K + ~$340 = 180 SCs

ZNE-PER-BNE-TSV for 36K + ~$345 = 200 SCs

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I wanted to see the Top End in the wet season (never, never been before), so, a couple of weeks ago I took a JASA up to DRW (via a few other places ) to take advantage of the double-points offer.

MEL-BNE-DRW-BNE-TSV-BNE-DRW-SYD-MEL

Earned 540 SCs: Cost $553.12 + 61,890 points.

(Cost was actually 120,000 points but earned 50,110 points plus an 8000-point loyalty bonus.)

Was upgraded at the Holiday Inn to a Harbour View Suite and had a fantastic time :D

I need to move to Townsville :)

BTW which website do you guys book domestic US flights with?

I've seen ADL-MEL-CNS-TSV as a J classic award. But haven't been able to see it for a decent JASA price. CNS-TSV is also not J. Oh and not from PER.

I know. I was surprised my login to AFF still worked this morning after making such a statement! ;-)

I had not. Sometimes it's a case of "Forrest/Trees" I will look closely. Cheers.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

While not a status run per se I need to find the cheapest way of accruing 3 flight segments from PER, in either points or $, with only bronze status. An AONE4 for the folks will net enough SCs but they have not the segments required for plat status.

Any suggestions? I feel YASAs will be cheapest but JASAs will be more comfortable. Also, any bright ideas for obtaining a single segment?

Dont you need to go to NAN, with the actual NAN part in the next qualifying year?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Unfortunately, the year is starting in march 2010, and the AONE4 is also in Masrch (~15th). So the segments need to be accrued early March, but the SCs themselves are not really required. Currently I'm thinking 2 return PER-GET trips as YASAs, around 16000 points and $144 each. Not the greatest but it gets there, with an extra segment to spare. Any advances?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I think you missed the point, do a NAN run but a stopover in BNE before March!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Posted this in the 'Double SC's' thread, so I may get in trouble for posting it twice, it isnt the exact same post though :)

Anyone got any ideas on a Status Run in August? Will take advantage of the Double SC's so the run would need to earn around 300 points.

I looked at BNE -> MEL -> AKL -> MEL -> BNE which is 120,000 points and $175:00, earns 280 SC's (560 with double SC's)

Any other ideas?

You'll probably do better if you go to TSV and DRW.

As you're in Brisbane there is the mother of all domestic status runs BNE-xMEL-xPER-KTA-xPER-xMEL-BNE which can be had for about 110,000 points and earns 400 SCs. Which doubled will make 800 SCs. Of course you have to share the plane with the orange shirt brigade. If you time it right and take the red-eye from PER-MEL you can do the entire run in about 24 hours and won't need overnight accommodation.

And being domestic you would have to do it in April or June to get the double SCs.

That does look fun, but surely the TSV-xBNE-xDRW-xBNE-TSV run for 48,000 points yielding 280SC is better value, as you could take the flight 2 days in a row if you were particularly foolish and earn 560SC, or 1120SC in a double promotion, which is still better value (in terms of SC earned and points spent) than the single return flight to KTA :p

Neither of which will count in August though, per the OP request.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

The CX J deals TPE-Australia are great. I think I'll put all my HKG flying through there now.
In terms of positioning flights how much are HKG-TPE one-way or return flights normally?

HKG-TPE is fairly expensive - best to use a QF Classic award one way to start you off (10,000pts+$408HKD) then for each trip you book TPE-AUS keep the last leg of the trip- HKG-TPE booked on a future date to start your next trip (book as Multi-Trip)

110,000 is the full points price so would be 72,000 at the minimum level to be comparable to the 48,000 of TSV DRW run. Purely on the points per SC basis they are very close.
The all points price BNE KTA run is 109,548/400 is 273.8 points per SC. While TSV DRW run is 276.9 points per SC. So BNE KTA is slightly better value.

While at the minimum points level BNE KTA is 72000/400 is 180 points per SC. While TSV DRW run is 48000/280 which is 171 points per SC. So TSV DRW is slightly better value when minimum points is used.

They are so close it really comes down to other factors such positioning flights and accommodation. As well as how many FF points you have and how many SCs you need. Certainly if based in Brisbane then the KTA run has the benefit that you don't need a positioning flight or to pay for accommodation.

Hmmm, whilst I'm based in BNE, I'd need the 24 hour leave pass to do the KTA run....
