Hmmm, whilst I'm based in BNE, I'd need the 24 hour leave pass to do the KTA run....

Considering it needs a redeye to avoid an overnight you would need more than 24 hours, even then the redeye option is pretty rare.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi

I am a new member to this forum, but a long time FF member (since 1983) and have been up and down in the status ranks over the years. Now, I would like to do a status run by the end of this month and have looked at the various options in this thread, but I can't see the same SC values as proposed in the options. For example, when I looked at BNE -> MEL -> AKL -> MEL -> BNE on the Qantas calculation site, I only see 140SC and not 280 (and that is without the double SC offer) - flying in economy. It is 280SC in Business, but then the cost is over $2900 using 112,000 points.

I just don't see the same $/SC values as discussed - can someone please help me out here?

Cheers

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

You need to sometimes look at positioning flights, BNE-AKL is not on offer as one leg via the booking engine, howver CNS-AKL is often a similar cost but offers better points earn/SC:

I haven't been able to find the redeye out to June when it would suit. Fortunately, I have family in both BNE and KTA so an overnight is not a problem.

Continuing our discussion in another thread here where it belongs; I've actually been looking at 1040 from ADL, I just couldn't remember the earning correctly.

Thats a nice combo, not as nice as when the A333 was operating ;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Posted this in the 'Double SC's' thread, so I may get in trouble for posting it twice, it isnt the exact same post though :)

Anyone got any ideas on a Status Run in August? Will take advantage of the Double SC's so the run would need to earn around 300 points.

I looked at BNE -> MEL -> AKL -> MEL -> BNE which is 120,000 points and $175:00, earns 280 SC's (560 with double SC's)

Any other ideas?

I'm sure this example is nowhere near the best return but it will do me....booked about 10mins ago.

FASA, SYD-SIN-SYD A380 for $734 and 180,000 returns 720SC (DSC) & 23,448 points. Need to add on positioning flights to & from SYD as the blasted system removed all cheap F seats whenever I selected additional sectors:mad:

Flounge visit & new PJ are putting a smile back on my dial:)

Help please!!! when I look at this on the QF site, business class QF1/QF6 costs $3723 with 180,000 points and only returns 240SC - what I am doing wrong? Why don't I see the same 4/points ratios as everyone else is boasting about :(

DSC = double status credits which is a promo some have got.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Sure, but DSC of 240 isn't 360 - and the costs are also wildly different. I can't get SYD-SIN-SYD for$734 using 180,000 points and I only earn 240SC according to QF. So, why do others see such cheap flights with so many SC?

SYD to SIN return in F or first is 360 SC!

It's a painful process. The DSC offer is great if you receive it however, you can secure a J seat for far fewer $$$ than $3,723.....you need to spend sometime searching for the cheapest point cost. The point cost for F can range from 125,000 up to 750,000 for the same seat.

FWIW, when I was searching I found no J seats (direct on A380) but found a few F - If you want to fly a dump slope seat via Adelaide there are plenty on offer.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

So where do I search? Obviously not on the QF site!

They are so close it really comes down to other factors such positioning flights and accommodation. As well as how many FF points you have and how many SCs you need. Certainly if based in Brisbane then the KTA run has the benefit that you don't need a positioning flight or to pay for accommodation.

I will keep this in mind next year when I’m again working out how to re-qualify for WP :p

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Is 15 minutes too tight a connection in DRW?

This is damn frustrating! guess I just need to commit the time.

Having trouble trying to turn around in TSV on the same day. Can be done in CNS but not TSV

Ridiculously under MCT medhead. Back to the drawing board

One option would be to use DJ as well. That'll work if I book separately and ignore DJ's MCT of 90 minutes, like they do when they offer me the flights as a "connecting booking".
