I just booked a SYD-MEL-PER vv JASA. 72134 points and ~$300

SYD-MEL 1250 points 40sc (80)
MEL-PER 3785 points 80sc (160)
PER-MEL 3785 points, 80sc (160)
MEL-SYD 1250 points, 40sc (80)
10070 + 8,000 'loyalty bonus' = 18070 points and 480sc's earned.
Net points cost is 54064 points

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks guys, I'm on PS and travel for leisure, but Mr. MichaelK has been WG for years and I appreciate the free lounge access when traveling with him.

I've just booked JASA's ex BNE two flights to KTH, both with overnight PER / East coast flight so no hotels required.

Total 1440SC's and Platinum for $767 and 91,159 points nett (including hitting 3 loyalty bonuses and maybe less for whenever the cabin bonus will increase in multiplier for WP for the last legs).

BNE-MEL-PTH-KTH-PTH-BNE $365 and 72,000 points
BNE-ADL-PTH-KTH-PTH-SYD-BNE $402 and 72,000 points

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

PTH?
Port Heiden, Alaska, United States.
That's an awesome deal, unless you meant PER (Perth)?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Here's my potential plan for something (using the double SC promotion)

QF72 SIN-PER 23:30-04:40, Y, 50 SC
QF590 PER-ADL 06:50-11:15, JASA, 160 SC
QF736 ADL-SYD 12:15-14:40, JASA, 120 SC

Then a few days later,
QF739 SYD-ADL 08:20-10:00, JASA, 120 SC
QF587 ADL-PER 11:30-13:20, JASA, 160 SC
QF71 PER-SIN 15:35-21:05, Y, 50 SC

Total costs:
$656.90 SGD (~$500 AUD) being SIN-PER in Y
$347.09 AUD being fuel fines in JASA
72,000 points deducted

Total earnings:
660 SCs
17,698 + 8,000 points = 25,698 points.

Net points spent = 46,302 points.

That's pretty good considering I'm based in SIN, and actually have reasons to go to SYD. I suppose 2-hour connections in PER while on separate tickets aren't too bad, although I would need to take the inter-terminal bus...

Pro: 660SCs in total
Con: No sleep on first set of flights
Pro: will probably make WP later this year
Con: on 737s most of the time :(

Just wondering... does anyone think that this is not worth doing?

Not at all, if you have the time, do it - as you said, you need to come to SYD. Might as well work the system to your advantage.

Oneworldplus2 - I have booked exactly this JASA out of Syd on Sat 5th May - round trip in ~14 hours. Might break in Melb for a few hours to visit family though. What date(s) you flying...might see you?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Last time I did SYD-PER to get gold, I went via ADL which is about the same number of points but gets you a little more status credits

View attachment 6925

Yes, l looked into this, but l don't need to extra sc's as l'm just retaining Gold, not going for WP + I don't like flying long distances on 737's, l prefer a wide body (A330/B767/B747) for anything thats outside the 'Golden Triangle'.

ADL seems to get a lot of 737 traffic.
I do however like the ADL QF Lounge.

ADL does get quite a few 737s, and to be honest, ADL is not exactly a big or busy town that extensively demands 767s. Having said that, I don't quite like any distances in a 737 these days, although the schedule fits pretty much perfectly for my SIN based run.

Markis10 - if one was to do the TSV-DRW run but o/night in DRW instead of TSV - Do you have a favourite close to the airport?

It's DRW, everything is close including downtown which is 15 mins, the Rydges at the Airport is OK but seriously anything CBD is also good.

Ok thanks - I've never actually been to DRW.

Plus - I have to get to/from CNS-TSV, so it's either 2 nights in TSV to do the straight turnaround.... Or just do 1 o/night in DRW.....

ADL basically only gets 737s 90%+ of the time. We have the occasional non-737 domestic beast but that's about all.

The majority of the non-737s are international birds.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Most Thursdays and Fridays (at least that's when I see them) there are 2 767s on SYD-ADL @ 1425 and 1525 usually. Not sure were these go. The daily flight to DRW has been a 767 the 2 times I've taken it, but has also been a 737 when I booked it for the inlaws.

The ADL DRW flight is a 767 in the dry, 737 in the wet.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

From my reading of the QF email, i should get Double SCs for the international component of a NAN fun in August, correct?

If so, my plan was to have a Fiji holiday (2 people) then anyway. Anyone have improvements on the following basic itinerary that would earn more SCs?

I can make it to the airport by (probably) 5 pm on Friday 10th, and don't want to spend too long in an airport if possible. Happy to pay for a hotel night if there is a significant tangible benefit. Advantages of this particular itinerary are that I have an afternoon to catch a mate in Sydney and I Arrive in Fiji on Sunday rather than late Sat. Only issues is I leave Fiji fairly early too. Need to be home by Monday, Could maybe stretch to Tuesday if it's really worth it.

Happy to miss Sydney if there's a motza of SCs to be had, or if the cost can come down a bit. As background I only have 230SCs this year, and have only another 50 booked in prior to august (PER-SIN-PER). After that i have a one way to SIN (25 more) with the potential for a JASA back. All up, the 1400 for WP seems unlikely. End of year is 31st Dec

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

A question for those who have done the Townsville to Darwin SC run (I assume you return on the same aircraft you just arrived on): do you ever get questioned on why you apparently flew all the way to Darwin just to get on the same plane and fly back again?

I did SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD today. The CSM asked me what I was doing - I think she thought I was a "mystery shopper" which was quite funny.
I had 40 mins in Townsville - so went outside for a 20 minute walk. The weather was lovely! Wish I could have stayed there, rather than come back to Sydney weather!

QLD can make you feel that way;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Cynicor look at going via PER, BNE to NAN return - alternative flights via SYD, MEL. This will give you 480SC and cost $4127.
