Final flights for the B767

Per AusBT the QF490 MEL-SYD service on 27 December 2014 will be QF’s last B767 passenger flight.

And the schedule:

Sydney-Adelaide-Sydney: November 3, QF741 & QF752
Brisbane-Perth: November 17, QF651
Perth-Canberra: November 17, QF718
Melbourne-Canberra-Melbourne: November 30, QF822 & QF821
Brisbane-Adelaide-Brisbane: December 9, QF663 & QF656
Brisbane-Melbourne: December 9, QF635
Melbourne-Adelaide-Melbourne: December 17, QF683 & QF686
Melbourne-Brisbane: December 25, QF636
Brisbane-Darwin-Brisbane: December 26, QF824 & QF825
Sydney-Brisbane-Sydney: December 27, QF508 & QF517
Sydney-Melbourne-Sydney: December 27, QF447 & QF490
 
Don't count on it. In the last couple of weeks three of my carefully selected B767 morphed into one of those lousy 737.

Mind you - I'm getting to like watching movies over two or three flight.
 
woo-hoo!! Just about the worst Australian operated aircraft ever in terms of passenger comfort. Finally gone! Can't wait.

Some airlines have done a good job refurbishing their 767s - ANA installed large overhead bins (same as the ones on the B777 or B737 sky interior), and have a nice 2+1+2 configuration in business class.

2+2+2 with 37 inch pitch for a 4 hour Aussie domestic with no where to store your bags? They should have gone years ago (or been properly refurbished)
 
About the only good thing I could say is the exit seats A/B/j/K 35 second row had a huge amount of room.

I have to say that I rate QF's B767 dreamtime seat as my favourite option for daytime medium haul flights. (Especially when snagged on a domestic flight, instead of the squashy standard domestic millennium seats.) :shock:

It doesn't suffer from compromises which are designed into newer seats - to enable them to turn into flat beds. It's a nice, big, spacious, comfortable... seat! (Of course, that means it's not so good for trying to sleep in.)

So I take it you never flew on the DC9? Or 727? or Shorts 360? Or Dash 8? Or anything much else?

Give me a choice of a Dash 8 v B767, (an actual choice possible on the CBR-MEL vv route) B767 wins hands down any day. Dash 8 being small, cramped, slow, limited to 4kg cabin bags max. The 767 is a luxury liner by comparison.

been on all of them! but the DC9 and 727 aren't flying anymore. This is 2014, not the 1960s where all we needed to put in the overhead rack was a hat.

current 737s and even MD80s have decent sized overhead bins to fit cases wheels-first.

I think the refurbishment focussed on completely the wrong things. The plasticky black seats showed wear and tear very quickly, had little or leg-room, and didn't seem any better than what they replaced.

they could have spent the money on brand new overhead bins to actually make the flight a little more enjoyable.

all they needed to do was take a single trip on ANA to see what could really be done during a refurbishment.

I agree. I used to do MEL - Mildura quite a bit back in the day and I have done my dash (sorry) on the Dash 8.

Having said that, the Dash 8 is luxury compared to the Saab that did the same journey.

But did it make sense to completely refurbish the 767's considering the time they had left in the QF fleet. Probably not.
At the time the Millennium seats were put in the 767's (and the 330's), what was the accepted norms for transcon/golden triangle J?
 
I have absolutely no details worked out, I just booked a Classic Award and the rest will sort itself out hopefully :oops:

We're booked :D Meant to be on holiday in country VIC but will prob just do a flight from Sydney to Albury the next morning...

They didn't touch the seats at all - all they got was new covers with ipad hooks, and a new faux-wood armrest in business.

Not forgetting the rigmarole of certification as well.

I appreciate they didn't replace the seats on the 767 and I didn't suggest they did. the black covering and faux wood is what is showing the wear and tear (extraordinarily quickly IMO) and I though the old fabric seats were more comfortable.

i have never had any success with the ipad system... I dunno if I've been extremely unlucky, but I have never had stero sound through the earpieces... only one has worked, and even then the sound was bad.

when I board a QF 767 I know there is potentially going to be a battle to try and get my carry on stowed. it makes for an unpleasant experience. I don't really care if it would have cost more money to install a decent product.

But I do have a choice of carrier.
 
So my first and only QF 767 flight will be their last
(I have been on plenty of 767s, just never on QF)
