Final flights for the B767

I have a Christmas dinner with clients in Adelaide on the 17th Dec. I have just changed my late afternoon flight to the lunchtime (QF683) flight just because. If only it was an international config. 2A was my favorite seat.
Mind you, its more than likely it will be on a 738, with the changes lately.
One of the best looking aircrafts that QF have ever had in their fleet. I must say I have probably felt more safe in a QF767 than any other aircraft on any other carrier. Farewell 767's :(

I'm going to be on QF415/QF490 on the 27th Dec.

I'm just hoping this is actually the last flight unlike the "final" flight of the QF Boeing 737-400's (the date kept on changing :-|)

Same. Hopefully given the promotion of the dates, they stick to it.

been on all of them! but the DC9 and 727 aren't flying anymore. This is 2014, not the 1960s where all we needed to put in the overhead rack was a hat.

current 737s and even MD80s have decent sized overhead bins to fit cases wheels-first.

I think the refurbishment focussed on completely the wrong things. The plasticky black seats showed wear and tear very quickly, had little or leg-room, and didn't seem any better than what they replaced.

they could have spent the money on brand new overhead bins to actually make the flight a little more enjoyable.

all they needed to do was take a single trip on ANA to see what could really be done during a refurbishment.

All well and good except the refurbishment was meant to be a cheap, short life extension, not an major investment in keeping them longer.

Will be sad to see such a workhorse disappear from Australian skies... I'm booked on the last 490 as well so it looks like this could be a good little AFF event.

That was pretty much my thoughts. A cheap, quick way to keep pace with VA knowing the ac's had limited lifespans.

I really hope that, for all you folks who have booked the final flight, there isn't a last minute aircraft substitution.

Already booked on 767 for early December, and will have to be content with that. Have always enjoyed the flights on this a/c as much as any other domestic jets, apart from the A330.

Wow! That seems to sum up not only the 767 refurbishment - but also the entire set of enhancements QF has been undergoing:

  • cafe breakfasts
  • take-away boxes for second meals
  • cutting international flights from PER and ADL
  • fairer and simpler program changes

all designed to be a cheap life extension of QF - not a major investment in keeping it around longer :(

This is sad, I just hope they have enough A330's coming back from Jetstar

I hate 737's (unless I am in J) and go out of my way to avoid them, prefering the 767 (or A330) and it's two isles

This is sad news... I actually like the 767. I have a booking for SYD-BNE next March (2015) and specifically chose 767 flights - just had a look and obviously they've now been downgraded to 737-800s.

Is the SYD-BNE vv. route now going to be entirely 737-800s? It would be nice if they could throw in a few A330s for variety.

woo-hoo!! Just about the worst Australian operated aircraft ever in terms of passenger comfort. Finally gone! Can't wait.

Some airlines have done a good job refurbishing their 767s - ANA installed large overhead bins (same as the ones on the B777 or B737 sky interior), and have a nice 2+1+2 configuration in business class.

2+2+2 with 37 inch pitch for a 4 hour Aussie domestic with no where to store your bags? They should have gone years ago (or been properly refurbished)

I couldn't disagree more. Especially in Y-class, apart from AVOD, they were a much better experience than the B737/A330. Even in J, I never had an issue with locker space and the seat comfort was the same or better than most of the domestic A330s.

+ 1 single aisle 3+3 is a real downer. AVOD just makes it bearable.

again, i go by ANA as one of the better examples of what can be achieved with the interior of a 767. QF doesn't come close. Locker space is not an issue - it is the size of the lockers to handle standard international rolla-boards.

Give me an ANA interor and I'd happily fly the 767s domestically in Australia.

Yep. Flew ANA 767s often enough too. I've not had a problem with my 95% roller HLO travels on Qantas 767s over more flights and decades that I care to remember.
